What is COBRA and How to Evaluate Your Health Insurance Coverage if You Lose Your Job

If you lost your job and were previously covered under your employer’s group health plan, you are eligible for COBRA (the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) which allows former employers, retirees, spouses, former spouses, and dependent children access to temporary continuation of health coverage at group rates. Your length of coverage is determined by your qualifying event. Job termination or reduction of working hours qualifies 18 months of COBRA continuation.

Pink Slip Party helps to get jobseekers back to work

We hosted our first Pink Slip Party in the Lehigh Valley last night and it was great! We had about 90 job candidates and 40 recruiters turn out for the event. After planning and hosting five of these events, this was the first time that I felt like jobseekers thoroughly understood how to make the most of this event.

Using a ‘one size fits all’ resume never really was the best way to make yourself stand out from the job hunting crowd, but back in the days when your document was read by a real human being and the number of applicants was much lower, even a generic resume might still have been just enough to get you an interview. Nowadays, however, you are up against resume parsing systems and applicant tracking systems and goodness knows what other kinds of technological jiggery pokery. Unlike the human reader who can put your words into context and read between the lines, these computer programs just do as they are told, and if your resume doesn’t contain the precise information that they are looking for, then you won’t get a look in.
