Number of Women Rise at Large Law Firms

Women may have reached critical mass in law firms other than Fish & Cage, the fictional firm of the undernourished Ally McBeal.  Not only, according to The National Law Journal, has the percentage of women lawyers at the 250 largest law firms risen from 26.6 percent to 30.3 percent, but the proportion of women partners has reached 15.7 percent.  Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, which ranked 11th in the Vault.com Guide to the Top 50 Law Firms, has a proportion of women - 44.4 percent - that is equal to the proportion of women in law school.  Insiders at that company say that the firm is "progressive" and "open in other ways." "Paul Weiss definitely has openly gay partners and associates," say insiders.  "One of the associates came to the prom with his boyfriend, and no one cared."
