Bernardo's List of Job Hunting Tips

Job seekers working the cocktail party circuit need an entirely different strategy than the one they'd deploy at a traditional job interview.  Bernardo Joselevich, veteran of the Silicon Alley party scene, offers a few tips.

Come prepared with two snappy pitches: one pitch should outline what job you're looking for. The second pitch should outline the reasons why you're perfect for that spot. Make both pitches short, and don't feel odd going around the room repeating the exact same thing.  It's good practice.

Don't feel shy about walking up to someone. Introduce yourself to as many people as possible.  Bosses expect this kind of supplication at industry parties, and if they didn't like it, they wouldn't keep coming.  "A lot of people are not used to schmoozing to the extent that they could to find jobs," Joselevich says, so those who do work the room will benefit.

Ask for business cards from whomever you meet.

Don't forget your own business cards.  Hand them out to whomever will take them.

Bring a few resumes, but don't hand any out unless you're asked for more information about yourself.
