The Master of Science in Information Systems Program offers advanced learning in contemporary information technology.  Our candidates are employed, and interested either in furthering their skill sets by studying contemporary topics, or obtaining academic credentials in the rapidly expanding IT fields.

The program recognizes the fact that the IT professional must understand a wide variety of technologies, institutional goals, and business models, all of which are in the state of flux.

We teach basic object oriented programming techniques with C++, and advanced programming with either C++ or Java based courses covering the array of web development techniques.  In addition, courses are available for learning web design, XML, HTML, JavaScript, and handheld device programming.

Data communications are covered by several courses and include basic concepts, networking, wireless, and other relevant technologies.

Systems concepts are extensively covered in courses such as systems and requirement analysis, systems architecture, healthcare information systems and software engineering.

Database and decision support topics including data warehousing can be studied in several courses.

Courses using advanced technology in business, such as IT Planning, e-Commerce, IT Auditing, Security, and others are available for those candidates who wish to straddle the still existing gap between business goals and the tools by which such goals can be attained.

Instruction is either classroom based or hybrid combining the advantages of the classroom and the asynchronous distance learning methods.  Classes are offered once per weekday evening or Saturday morning.  The year is divided into twelve-week sessions in the Fall, Winter, and Spring, and a six-week session in the Summer.

There is no GRE or GMAT entry requirement. Each candidate is originally admitted as a provisional student.  The degree requirement consists of the satisfactory completion of 15 courses and the passing of a comprehensive examination. Those who have a recent degree in CS or recent academic credentials in programming, the Admission Committee may waive one, two, or three of the prerequisite courses.  The program can be completed, on a part time basis, in two to two and a half years.  The average completion time is three and a half years for part time students.

The Graduate Division at DeSales University also offers MBA, Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Education, and Physician Assistant degrees.
