Linux/Java Accelerated Certificate Program

A 320-hour newly enhanced accelerated hands-on program!

The Linux Operating System is rapidly becoming the de-facto standard for Internet technology applications. The Java programming language, because of it is flexibility, features, and power, is being used throughout industry for both large and small applications.  Many industry and government agencies are adopting Linux and Java as their standard operating system and programming environments. 

This accelerated 320-hour certificate program provides students with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with the Linux Operating System and Java Programming Language.  With interactive, hands-on instruction, students learn the fundamental concepts of the Linux Operating System, Shell Programming, Linux System Administration, and Linux Networking.  During the first four modules of the program, students will learn how to install, configure and manage a Linux server.

The four Java modules progress through a series of exercises designed to provide the students with the knowledge and experience in the Java programming environment.  Beginning with an Introduction to the Java Programming language, students will also learn how to write Graphical User Interfaces using Java tools such as Swing and AWT, use of the Java Database Connectivity utilities to access databases, and how to write Servlets and Aplets!

CLASSES FORMING NOW!
  • Full-time attendance, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. -5p.m. for eight weeks:
    Sept. 11 - Nov. 3, 2000
    Nov. 22 - Feb 2, 2001
  • Part-time attendance, two evenings a week 6-10 p.m. and every other Saturday 9a.m. -5 p.m. for 26 weeks:
    Sept 12 - April 12, 2001
    Both options yield an identical amount of classroom time and instruction.  The full-time option enables you to mainstream more quickly.

    Client Server Certificate Program

    Prospective Database Developers, Systems Architects, Analysts, Designers - Prepare with this upgraded Penn State Certificate!  A 320 - hour upgraded curriculum:

    Learn Systems Architecture and software design in a Client Server environment, and join the ranks of individuals helping to solve the IT labor deficit in Client/Server development. Understand how to solve business problems by designing and building a relational database.

    Our practical, skill-building course uses an accelerated learning model to teach full life cycle development of a system's architecture connecting an Oracle database to a Visual Basic Graphical User Interface on a Windows NT platform. We have modified our curriculum to include Advanced Oracle and Advanced Visual Basic.

    Learn by CREATING!! In this classroom-intensive, hands-on learning environment, you will build a working system, start to finish. The focus is on design and implementation. We cover 3,500 pages of course material for a 320 hour certification.

    Look for an Active Server Page (ASP) advanced module adjunct to be available late this fall!

    • 26 week evening classes, 2 evenings a week, 6-10 and alternate Saturdays, 9-5
