Qualifications: BS or BA in Business, Materials Management, Supply Chain Management, Technical, Engineering or Packaging Development disciplines. MBA is preferred. Extensive personal computer skills, specifically on Microsoft platforms (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint); MS Access and MS Project would be beneficial. Training in effective negotiations, procurement/ purchasing and contract law, SAP, MRP and group facilitation and presentations is preferred. Minimum relevant experience: BS = 5 years; MS = 4 years; MBA = 4 years
To meet the demands (technical, quality, and cost) of the position, candidates with some combination of experience in the following areas are desired: Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and BioTech Drug Substance: Researching, identifying, evaluating and contracting New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and API suppliers; collaborating on API issues with Business Development on Divestiture of products; and managing API matters related to Product Rationalization Initiatives. Production Materials & Packaging: Researching, identifying, evaluating and contracting suppliers for pharmaceutical raw materials, intermediates, active pharmaceutical materials, excipients and vitamins. Contract Manufacturing: Researching, identifying, evaluating and contracting for drug product manufacturing, product filling, and third party packaging activities with manufacturers outside the Client site network. Preferred experience includes sourcing of pharmaceutical raw materials and ingredients, and packaging materials and components. Packaging: Researching, identifying, evaluating and contracting for packaging materials and components, especially in pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical device or consumer goods industries.
Job function experience includes roles in portfolio/category or commodity management, material buying, finance, data analysis, and experience in sourcing, procurement, materials management, or related technical disciplines.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Assorted Materials Portfolio Associate Category Manager is responsible for conducting market research and internal stakeholder/business analysis to identify and manage suppliers within his/her portfolio that create and consistently deliver increased value to the Client's supply chain. In this role, the Assorted Materials Portfolio Associate Category Manager works closely with cross-functional teams (Technical, Engineering, Purchasing, Sourcing, Commercial, et. al) to develop supply sourcing strategies that reduce cost, ensure supply continuity, and meet Client's quality requirements. S/he also has responsibility for leading Client's supplier management efforts, identifying cost reduction/value creation project opportunities, and ensuring cross-site/functional compliance with the developed sourcing strategies and contract terms. The packaging components contained within the Assorted Materials Portfolio include Blister Foil, Pouch Foil, Cotton, Desiccants, Plastic Tubes, Film, et. al. Other projects/duties are completed, as assigned.
The Assorted Materials Portfolio Associate Category Manager has the primary responsibility for: Continuously reviewing the design, supply chain, quality, and cost of the materials within the portfolio to identify top-line, OE/Six Sigma/Lean initiative, and/or TCO cost reduction opportunities for Client. Conducting supplier negotiations and establishing/monitoring supply agreements Conducting business reviews with suppliers to review supplier performance and monitor key business issues. Reporting cost management (PPV) and monthly purchasing activities. Evaluating supply, quality, and price risks, through assessing supplier capabilities.
In addition to these responsibilities, s/he will work with and travel to Client's North American sites (Canada, New York, Puerto Rico, Richmond, et. al) and suppliers to: Execute plans to assure continuous supply of quality components and combat market changes and challenges. Ensure that our suppliers meet our quality requirements and applicable regulatory requirements by initiating appropriate action when supplier quality or compliance deficiencies are identified. Manage problem resolution with suppliers, as appropriate, for assigned portfolio. Manage and monitor material changes for compliance to quality and regulatory standards. Develop and implement effective cost management programs to deliver year-on-year cost improvement. Lead cross-functional teams to execute projects that comply with the sourcing strategies, and deliver costs savings; mitigate supply risk/vulnerabilities, and/or resolve issues Work closely with Site Procurement Teams. Investigate supply market. Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, ethical practices, Client Values and adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
