Brief description of project: This role is to support BAU work as well as Client movement towards ERP and Data warehouse systems, which will create the need for more support. BAU - much of this work is currently handled by the Network Engineering group, in which they are responsible for responding to alerts, troubleshooting the database, performance tuning and monitoring/maintaining its overall performance. Responsibilities: This candidate will need to perform several duties over the course of this contract. For BAU support, the consultant will take ownership of the above duties that are currently handled by the Net. Engineering team. In addition to those listed above, some more standard day to day practices for a DBA are: performing backups and restores, patch management, daily DB analysis to ensure proper functionality, building stored procedures, porting reports, documentation, optimization of the environment, handling change/control modification, clustering and developing SQL server reports. This candidate is also being brought on to provide support, information and ideas regarding their transition to and ERP/DW environment. Ideally, we will need a candidate that has been involved in a similar project in the past or who worked in this type of environment and was required to offer analysis and ideas to the teams involved, as it pertains to the SQL DB and the surrounding environments. The third angle of this role is experience as a SQL DB developer. This will involve creating architecture and design, and developing the database with SQL. The apps that are run on the DB are written in C#/ASP.net. This candidate must be above a mid level DBA, by possessing some development knowledge/experience as well as being able to enter the client environment and offer both standards/best practices for all of the environment and the ability to transfer knowledge to the rest of the client staff which they are supporting (i.e. - communication skills and an in depth understanding of not only SQL DBA technologies, but the concepts that govern the role's responsibilities). Must have skills: 5 yrs+ experience as a SQL Server DBA SQL Server 2005 SQL development skills Good communication/presentation The motivation to go above and beyond a typical DBA's duties and offer problem solving capabilities. Almost must have skills: Share point Business Objects Seibel DB tuning Experience in an enterprise environment "Idera" toolset - will make the difference in a candidate - this tool does things like give alerts regarding the DB's threshold, etc... Nice to have's: Business Objects C#/ASP.net - ERP/Data warehouse experience Experience with "virtual technologies" Company culture: Typically, a M-F 8am - 4:30pm shift. Candidates need to be flexible but there are no plans for OT or off hours. Dress is business casual. Technical Environment: Client is a Microsoft Environment, running SQL Server 2005, Share point, Visual Studio, MS Exchange Server 2003, etc... Apps are coded in ASP.net using C#.
