Technical Writer/Editor Hanover, Maryland Return to Search Results|Send job to a friend Description: Position: Technical Writer/Editor Location: Hanover, MD Clearance: TS SCI FL Poly Description: Gathers, analyzes, translates and composes technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and nontechnical personnel. Composes technical documents including, users manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports. Edits functional descriptions, system specifications, user’s manuals, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents. Conducts research and ensures the use of proper technical terminology. Takes Documentation artifacts developed by architects, engineers, developers & technical during the design and development process & develops technical documentation that is useable by the end user. Responsible for providing technically accurate, grammatically correct, technical documentation, operational & maintenance, security, CGV3, Conops, test procedures, and ALSP in a format consistent with approved templates Essential Job Functions: - Researches, writes, edits, and proofreads complex technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures and specifications to provide clients with information regarding technical areas in a less technical way. - Determines the scope and timeline of new documentation projects in order to plan projects. - Coordinates project plans, determines resources, etc. - Interviews programmers, engineers, developers, and other technical personnel. - Reads previous documentation and design notes, and uses computer based training or company technical products to gather and research complex technical information for use in complex documentation. - Writes, organizes, enters and compiles complex online help files to support end users. - Creates, compiles, and delivers complex system/software developmental documentation packages including, but not limited to narratives, logic diagrams, input and output samples, input preparation instructions, job setup information, etc., from technical project team inputs, system requirements analysis, system design specifications, technical system design, technical procedure development, configuration control requirements, test and training specifications, and programming notes. - Assists in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations to meet business needs. - Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel. Basic Qualifications - Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience - Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, technical writing or related field preferred - Four or more years of technical writing experience - Experience working with desktop publishing, word processing, and on-line documentation software - Experience working with industry writing style such as grammar, sentence form, and structure - Top Secret/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: - Strong communication skills - Personal computer and business solutions software skills - Strong proofreading and editing skills - Ability to convert technical knowledge into easily understood terms - Ability to work independently and as part of a team Req No: SO2E1
