DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for designing and engineering new products and enhancements to existing products. Also responsible for creation and ongoing development and support of the design and standards of the shared network infrastructure that supports two lines of business.
The successful candidate will have expert-level capabilities in several areas, such as IT infrastructure design, networking, data center and IT automation, systems integration, virtualization, technical writing, capacity management and process improvement. Coming from a Service Provider environment is a huge plus !
· Will own the network technology aspects of specific products under development within the CTO organization, ensuring that product requirements are executed with a high level of technical excellence, demonstrable functional and technical quality, within required timelines, and within budget
· Bring successful products to market. After product is launched, a primary measure of its success is its net income. Another measure could be based on customer research, such as product-specific customer satisfaction surveys.
· Create architectural standards for shared network infrastructure that supports the MS and RS lines of business
· Provide thought leadership within the organization and externally on topics related to network technology, IT automation, data security, information availability and other pertinent topics
· Support due diligence efforts for potential acquisition activity, focusing on products as well as network infrastructure, standards and tools
· Communication of in-depth technical issues and other content to a varied audience, from individual contributors to managers and directors to executives
· Bringing new ideas and change to a large organization
· Designing and scoping solutions in a way that balances required features with appropriate costs to meet market-based pricing of products
· Managing multiple projects, of varying scope and size, each with aggressive deadlines
· Working within a rapidly changing business environment, while remaining focused on making the correct strategic and tactical decisions to grow value of company
· Responsible for network infrastructure standards supporting the operation MS and LOB’s, with some responsibility within RS LOB. The infrastructure standards apply to over 50 locations
· Provide research and recommendations supporting $1M+ capex and opex business decisions
· Develops services according to specifications established, with goal of creating solutions that appeal to a large amount of customers
· Deliver solutions/services in agreed-upon timeframe, meeting applicable interim milestones.
· Designs solutions within set project budget.
Qualifications
· College Degree preferred but will consider applicants with equivalent work-related experience
· MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
· Minimum 10 years experience in network design and engineering
· CCIE or JNCIE technical certifications or equivalent experience. (There are 2 CCIE's in the group now.)
· Proven ability to create and maintain complex network designs
· Thorough understanding of all IT aspects of modern data centers is a plus.
· Expert working knowledge of IP network design and routing architectures.
· Expert working knowledge in operation of Ethernet LAN switching protocols and standards including VLANs, VLAN aggregation, Ether Channel, PVLANs, Spanning Tree & Rapid Spanning Tree, 802.1Q, 802.1e, and CAT 5 and fiber cable distribution systems.
· Expert knowledge of networking and routing protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP4, OSPF, RIP, IS-IS, MPLS, VPLS, RSVP, LDP, etc.
· Expert working knowledge in operation of protocol analyzers, packet testers, debugging and circuit test equipment.
· Strong communication and presentation skills
· Strong technical writing skills
· Knowledge of IT and data center automation concepts
· Ability to analyze and improve IT process
· Knowledge of capacity management issues
· Strong commitment to customer service.
· Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
· Strong process development skills.
· Ability to effectively work in a team environment as well as independently.
Preferred:
· Minimum 5 years experience in a service provider environment
· Knowledge of Unix and Microsoft operating systems.
· Knowledge of SAN switches and storage arrays
· Basic knowledge of shell scripting and programming languages such as Perl and Python.
· Expert working knowledge of network security systems, intrusion detection systems and protocols including, SecurID, TACACS, IPSEC, IKE, etc.
· Expert working knowledge in transport technologies such as TDM, SONET, DWDM and circuit emulation.
