DESCRIPTION: (See Hiring Manager questions at end of description)
Utility Computing designs systems and solutions related to utility computing platforms, specifically, tools related to the rapid provisioning of resources across all components of the architecture as well as tools used to monitor, manage and measure the performance of the utility platform. This position provides advanced levels expertise in the domains of utility platform design and management, automated provisioning and performance/fault management.
· Participate in the design and deployment of company’s utility computing platform.
· Design and scope automated rapid provisioning systems across each of physical & virtual servers, network components and physical & virtual storage that meet predefined requirements.
· Research, test & recommend vendor product offerings related to assigned areas of responsibility.
· Develop architectural design documentation, build documentation and operational training material related to assigned projects.
· Participate in requirements gathering and project planning to ensure proper scoping of activity.
· Participate in & direct production environment builds, including installation of servers, storage and network hardware and software.
MUST Requirements:
· Minimum 7 years direct experience working with utility computing platform or other large scale multi-tenant platform, in an engineering or design capacity.
· Minimum 5 years experience designing or implementing data center automation or runbook automation, either custom developed or COTS, such as Opsware, Bladelogic or Opalis.
· Proficiency with one or more virtualization platforms, including Vmware or Xen.
· Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including systems, storage, network, security, etc.
· Excellent communications skills & ability to communicate effectively with executive level audience.
Preferred Requirements:
· Ability to multi-task in a highly technical, fast paced environment
· Experience with fault management and/or performance reporting solutions.
· Experience with multiple OS and network platforms such as Windows, Linux, Solaris, IOS, JUNOS, etc...
· Experience with product development activity.
· Experience working in a service provider environment.
· Familiarity with ITIL v3
· Experience in software development
· Experience work with/designing cloud computing platforms.
