The College of American Pathologists has an exciting opportunity within the Division of Advocacy for a Legislative Assistant for State Affairs for our Washington D.C. office. Who are we? Founded in 1947 and headquartered just North of Chicago, the College of American Pathologists is the second largest medical association in the US, as measured by revenues, and the largest medical association exclusively supporting the specialty of pathology. The Position: Reporting to the Director of State Affairs, the Legislative Assistant will be responsible for providing general program support for the entire State Affairs team, including state legislative and issues research, state legislative tracking, assisting in advocacy execution, and developing and maintaining state pathology society meeting information. You will be responsible for coordinating the CAPs new initiative on transformation of the profession with state pathology societies and also assist with the program for CAP national leader visits to state pathology society meetings. What we require: In order to be considered for this position, you must have a bachelors degree in political science or a related field and at least 3 years of experience in government relations. You must have excellent written and oral communications skills and be highly organized with the ability to function effectively under moderate pressure. You will also have familiarity with state legislative and state regulatory processes and possess the ability to compose analytical documents. Advanced Internet research skills will be essential for success in this role, as you will be heavily involved in conducting legislative, legal and political research.
