IT Infrastructure Facilities Technician Location: Wilmington DE Contract or Contract-to-hire
IT Infrastructure Facilities Technician will be responsible for 7x24x365 operation, maintenance and repair of Center Facilities. The scope is to include HVAC, mechanical, electrical, fire alarm / fire suppression, cable plant and cable management, equipment rack utilization and IT Infrastructure related systems.
This position will ensure the ongoing flawless operation of the data center, will ensure that facilities problems are identified and repaired quickly, will ensure that contractors are delivering quality services, and will make sure that all internal customer demands are being met.
This individual will assist IT Facilities Management by providing on-site leadership and project management.
This individual will be responsible for managing and maintaining the voice and data cabling infrastructure. Projects could range from the construction of new facilities to personnel floor reconfigurations.
This person will also be responsible for maintaining Audio Visual infrastructure. This position will manage the implementation off all new AV initiatives as well as support all existing installations. In this role they will be responsible to coordinate, execute, and support executive, educational, and routine meetings in a fast-paced customer service focused environment. They will also be responsible for assisting IT Facilities management with the RFP, and vendor vetting processes.
This individual will be responsible for cross-training IT Services on the daily maintenance and service of these installations to successfully meet the customer*s expectations.
Essential Facility Functions: Project manage all IT Facilities related initiatives
Assist management in RFP*s, vendor selection, procurement and legal processes related to IT Facilities
Maintain and update Policy, Process, and Procedure (MOPs / SOPs) for consistency and maximum system availability
Coordinate all preventative maintenance on IT Facility support systems (electrical / HVAC / mechanical / fire / communications infrastructures) related to data center facilities operation. Oversee contractor work that may be selected to do similar tasks
Conduct regular analysis/audit of SOP/MOP designs and/or maintenance practices to maximize availability, and reduce any point of failure
Ensure complete focus & attention towards achieving 99.97% facility uptime availability
Knowledge of voice/data cabling and physical layer topologies a plus
Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies, 24 x 7, via pager or mobile phone. Ability to work varying shift w/ occasional holiday and overtime work required based on project and maintenance requirements
Essential AV Functions: Setting up, testing, operation, & troubleshooting of video conferencing & AV equipment interfacing with various levels of end users
Provide videoconferencing support and general AV support for high profile/executive level, complex meetings on-site or off, including set up & test videoconferencing connection with new outside meeting participants, initiate calls, dialing-up and connecting all parties scheduled to participate in the videoconference, internal and external, and assist with audio only interconnection with videoconferencing setups, as needed.
Manage AV Requests calendar and coordinate resources as necessary.
Act as a peer group leader to help train IT support staff. Serve as an escalation point for difficult problems and complex inquiries.
Collaborates with Tier II and III technical staff and external vendors to resolve critical or more complex problems in a timely manner.
Acts as problem specialist gathering and disseminating information to and from IT support groups, and affected customers during high impact outages.
Develop technical support expertise with less experienced staff members through knowledge sharing.
Serve as a technical liaison with project teams within the scope of the project or specialization.
Experience & Qualifications:
Must be experienced with specialized systems including: Back up electrical systems (UPS / CPS / Generators and respective switchgear,) HVAC systems, BMS controls and systems, data/telephony infrastructure systems.
Minimum 5 years of increasing responsibility & experience in the overall operation of critical data centers, including experience in all the following categories: electrical, HVAC/mechanical, fire systems, building management systems / controls, communications (data center) infrastructure.
Experience supervising labor teams and vendors.
Experience in the project management of large scale personnel and equipment moves under extremely aggressive time requirements.
Knowledge of Desktop hardware and software.
Knowledge of Windows NT / Windows 2000 / XP Professional.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office 2000 Applications.
Knowledge of most presentation oriented applications and programs such as PowerPoint, NetMeeting, and WebEx.
Knowledge of Polycom and Tandberg equipment.
Knowledge of ISDN and related standards.
Knowledge of LAN/WAN network management principles, operations, and standard network protocols.
Must have a strong working knowledge of various types of AV equipment from basic projectors, screens, audio systems, etc. to more complex set ups involving multi-screen video projection and sophisticated corporate AV presentations.
Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to ascertain information and maintain dialogue with the customer as to the status of a particular issue.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively via documentation, telephone, and e-mail with customers and peers in varying roles.
Well organized and has the ability to properly manage individual workload.
Should possess a strong work ethic and a desire for a variety of challenges.
Education and/or Certifications: Prefer Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent Electrical / Stationary / Operating Engineering /data infrastructure related training or relative working experience.
Technical skills and abilities: Effective trouble shooting and analytical skills and the ability to manage complex & high-risk technical projects under pressure.
Comprehensive understanding & application of Reliability Engineering principles.
Effective written and verbal communications skills.
Working Knowledge of AutoCAD.
Ability to read and analyze Electrical, Mechanical, cable plant and Plumbing blue prints.
Ability to effectively use spreadsheets, databases, project management programs and other automated tools in completion of assigned duties. Working knowledge of Windows / Outlook / Word / Excel / Email. Effective overall computer operation skills.
