We need a versatile mechanic that can do it all, from breaking into a gear box as well as trouble-shooting a Variable Speed Drive (VSD). The purpose of this key maintenance role is to perform all repairs, preventive and predictive maintenance on existing equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production equipment and install new mechanical equipment as required. Toubleshoots, analyzes and improves the operation of plant equipment and performs process maintenance tasks (eg. media changes, passivation and cleaning) needed to support plant operations, quality specifications and production requirements. MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Qualifying Duties • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble; • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective part; • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections; • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements; • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instrument; • Repairs or replaces defective parts; • Lubricates and cleans parts; • Start devices to test their performance. • Uses oxy-acetylene welding apparatus including adjusting regulators; selection of proper tips; adjusting the flame; tack welding and depositing beads – flat position, vertical, overhead welds, different type of joints. • Sets up necessary equipment for arc welding and utilizing equipment that includes select-ing the proper rod; making necessary adjustments; striking the arc; tack welding in flat position; practice arc welding in vertical and overhead positions; making single pass and multiple pass welds; performing butt, vee, lap and fillet welds. • Demonstrates capability to use heli-arc welding. • Measures, lays out, cuts, and threads pipe by hand and machine. • Bends piping and tubing. • Makes and installs pipe with screwed fittings and flanged fittings. • Repairs and replaces parts on valves, traps, pressure regulators, etc. • Lays out piping from drawings or instructions. Prepares Bills of Material including length of pipe and nipples, flange sizes, gaskets, bolts, fittings, valves supports, etc. • Makes and installs non-ferrous pipe and fittings such as copper tubing, plastic and fiber-glass. • Follows safety regulations and procedures for electrical work. • Splices and joins conductors including preparation of conductors; makes various types of joints by soldering, taping, and solderless connectors. • Installs conduit including cutting, reaming, threading, and bending conduit; determining length of conduit required; application of various terminal fittings; installing conduit sys-tem. • Installs wiring systems for lighting. • Maintain knowledge of operating principles of various types of switches and installation; installs panels and fixtures. • Tests and troubleshoots lighting systems including open circuits, shorts and grounds. Uses test lamp, voltage tester, and clamp ammeter. Locating and replacing defective fuses. Maintains emergency lighting. • Follows inspection and maintenance procedures for lighting fixtures, lighting panels, mo-tors, starters, controls and circuit breakers at voltages to 480 volts. • Installs and troubleshoots motors, starters and controls for single or polyphase voltages. • Follows procedures for working on energized circuits. • Services, overhauls and replaces parts for forklift trucks, transporters, hoists, portable electrical tools, etc. • Starts up of all equipment, cleans, inspects, repairs and/or replaces components, and properly reassembles equipment such as: rolls, gear housing, pumps, “Lightning” mixers blowers, gas burners, Pfaudler reactors, glass repairs, spray machines, heat exchangers, boilers, compressors, filters and associated equipment. Quality Support • Monitor and maintain process control instrumentation & equipment • Maintain and calibrate maintenance measuring & test equipment • Participate in corrective actions regarding customer complaints/non-conformance as necessary • Provide maintenance and calibration services and documentation to Production Team in order to ensure that quality product is produced. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience • High School diploma or equivalent. • Successful completion of Multi-Craft Mechanics I, III, IV courses or equivalent. • Completion of Maintenance Trainee 1, 2 and 3 requirements or equivalent. Knowledge/Skills/Competencies • Minimum if four (4) years experience trade knowledge of maintenance work including repair mechanics. • Journeyman certification is a definite plus.
