Director, MPS Journalism Program

Job No:  2009-0640C Job Title: Director, MPS Journalism Program Department: School of Continuing Studies Grade/Level: Date Posted: July 22, 2009 The Director of the Masters in Professional Studies Journalism Program manages and provides support to the MPS Journalism program in the School of Continuing Studies. This person is critical to the day-to-day functions as well as the long-term vision of the program in every area: curriculum, faculty, students, management, and administration. This position plays a central role in the management and assessment of curriculum and the capstone experience, including assessing the effectiveness of the curriculum and capstones and ensuring the curriculum and capstones are as beneficial to the students as possible. This person will provide critical support in strategic planning including industry outreach, writing and editing grant proposals, all aspects of alumni relations, and mentorship programs for current students. The incumbent meets with prospective students and attends recruiting events. The Director guides students to develop their academic plans and fulfill graduation requirements. This person coordinates faculty orientation sessions, faculty assessments, and works with the Associate Dean on curricular and pedagogical plans. The Director supervises support staff and is responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day operations and processes of the journalism program run effectively and efficiently. The Director manages the MPS Journalism program, grant and gift budgets. This person reports to the Associate Dean of the MPS Journalism program.

A bachelors degree, experience in development, project management, grant writing, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and basic familiarity with new media technologies used in the journalism industry is required. The person in this position must be able to network, have excellent communication and project management skills, and work well with others within and external to Georgetown University.
