Job No: 2009-0521D Job Title: Senior Literacy Coach/Intervention Specialist Department: School of Nursing & Health Studies - Administration Grade/Level: 10$ 56,000.00-- $ 60,000.00 Date Posted: July 14, 2009 Senior Literacy Coach will co-facilitate the assessment of an Early Reading First grant at a DC Public Charter School. The Senior Literacy Coach will assist with preparing sustainability protocol for the Excellence-in Teaching Partnership, supervise orient and mentor new coaches, present graduate level material for literacy coach professional development, assist in training workshops for educators and observe and assess literacy coaches. The Senior Literacy Coach will provide in-classroom support to pre-K teachers in the low-income areas of the District of Columbia who are involved in a professional development program aimed at improving the language and literacy environment in the classroom and ultimately improving childrens language and literacy development. The Senior Literacy Coach will conduct classroom observations, model appropriate teaching techniques, and help teachers reflect on their own teaching skills. The position requires extensive local travel and access to an automobile. Candidate should have a minimum of a masters degree in language development, literacy, early development, early education, elementary education, psychology or related areas. Early education classroom experience, preferably with 3-4 year olds, is highly desirable. Ability to work independently as well as on a team with other literacy coaches and project staff -- a must.
