Job No: 2009-0505B Job Title: Associate Vice President, University Development - Office of Advancement Department: Office of Advancement Grade/Level: 15 Date Posted: July 15, 2009 The Associate Vice President, under the general direction of the Vice President for Advancement is responsible for (1) primary staff leadership for the achievement of financial goal for the comprehensive campaign as such will be a valuable contributor to the development and continual refining of the campaign strategic plan; (2) management of University-wide central development divisions; and (3) close collaboration with the University Provost for Main Campus fund raising programs, including the College, School of Foreign Service, McDonough School of Business, Lauinger Library, Graduate School, Graduate Public Policy Institute, and Financial Aid. The AVP is the lead fund-raiser for the University, including but not limited to the Main Campus, and has responsibility for securing principal and major gifts. The Associate Vice President serves as leader in Advancement, including participating as a member of the Senior Management Team. As such must be comfortable interacting and working as part of a team and must be capable of contributing effectively to the discussion, analysis and resolution of strategic issues as well as be capable of working effectively with various constituencies and balancing competing priorities. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Advancement, the AVP has regular contact with the University Provost and works closely with other members of Advancements senior management team, the University President, the Senior Vice President, Executive Vice Presidents, deans, faculty, other senior University administrators and leaders, and among all colleagues in the Office of Advancement. The Associate Vice President for University Development directly manages the following staff: Senior Director of Development for the School of Foreign Service, Senior Director of Development for Georgetown College, Senior Director of Development for McDonough School of Business, Director of Development for Athletics, Director of Major Gifts, Director of Development for Mission & Ministry, Senior Director of Principal Gifts & Regional Strategies, and an Executive Assistant. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors, though advanced degree preferred; at least eight years of a record of successful major gifts fundraising experience, preferably in a capital campaign in an academic environment; demonstrated success as a creative and effective leader, manager, and supervisor, with expertise in personnel management, strategic planning, program implementation and fiscal planning and accountability; demonstrated success in developing an effective volunteer structure; exceptional interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills.
