Responsibilities include managing and conducting technical aspects of assigned projects, development of laboratory protocols and procedures, preparing concept proposals and grant applications, training research staff and users of the facility. Manages all technical aspects of experimental design for conducting assigned projects. Performs basic and clinical research. Performs tests, assays and procedures appropriate to the project(s), following specific protocols. Adjusts protocols as necessary to accomplish goals. Problem-solves. Performs biochemical, molecular biological, microscopic, serological, bacteriological, examinations and tests of biological samples. Prepares and runs assays such as immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, western blots, ELISA. Microscopic analysis using fluorescence and non-fluorescence probes. Provides analysis of results, statistical evaluation, interpretation of data. Reports results by maintaining and updating specific database, logs, applicable to unit/area of duties and research. Maintains accurate and complete records. Develops laboratory protocols and procedures. Provides training to laboratory personnel and users. Contributes to the authoring of publications and presentations. Performs literature searches and investigations. Keeps abreast of current literature. Prepares concept proposals and grant applications for future projects and funding under the direction of the Laboratory Manger and director of the Molecular Pathology Laboratory. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area and as directed by the Laboratory Manager and the Director of the Molecular Pathology Laboratory. Orders and inventories laboratory supplies. Requires Bachelors degree with 5 years experience in immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related procedures.
