General Summary The individual will be responsible for managing multi-disciplinary NAFS R&D projects from concept through commercialization for the development of line extensions, new products, quality improvements and productivity improvements; and will work with minimal direct supervision to design and execute these projects. The individual must possess a thorough knowledge of technical principles and product commercialization strategies. Principal Accountabilities 1. Project Planning & Management (30%) 2. Project Execution (40%) 3. Communication (10%) 4. Talent Management (20%) Job Complexity . Work with Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales and Customers to establish project objectives and action plans. . Work with the technical team and Marketing to identify & define product concepts and establish project timelines. . Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. Can develop and manage timelines that contain primary as well as contingency plans. Accurately assesses and communicates risks associated with programs to R&D and Marketing. . Work with vendors to research new ingredients, product technologies, and/or processes to develop new products and/or apply to productivity initiatives. Leverage vendor capabilities where appropriate to expand formulation possibilities and/or increase speed to market. . Develop prototypes to support concepts. Reformulate based on customer direction. Conduct trials in the Pilot Plant or manufacturing facility to assess manufacturing capability. . Plan, execute, and lead special batches involving cross-functional team members for scale-up and start manufacture. Provide training to junior staff. . Monitor production start up of new and revised products to confirm plant capability and conformance to design criteria . Communicate plans & results to senior functional staff, or business team . Effective troubleshooting skills. Can determine the root cause of a problem and implement effective solutions. Job Specifications . BS in Food Science, Engineering, or a related field. Masters preferred. . 5 years work experience in a food/beverage company. . Highly effective team player; willing to contribute in a wide variety of areas. . Demonstrated execution skills in commercializing products/proceses in the manufacturing environment. . Strong critical thinking skills. . Excellent communication skills - oral, written, presentation. . Significant experience with various technologies, products and processing systems. . Sound understanding of culinary and recipe development and scale up to manufacturing. . Travel required (approximately 20%).
