Title: Electrical Assembly - Aerospace Hardware Location: NY, Rochester Req Number: itti-00015017 Position Description: ITT Space Systems Division in Rochester, NY is looking for Electrical Hardware Integrators to work in our Electrical Assembly Operations unit. Integrators within this unit build electrical components that are used in flight hardware/space satellite imaging systems. Will participate in activities to fabricate, assemble, and test highly complex electronic assemblies, circuit card assemblies, cables, and boards, including ground support equipment, structures for aerospace applications (flight and non-flight), and test-set builds, utilizing engineering drawings and work instructions. Scope and Principle Duties: Scope is to build and integrate electrical and electronic aerospace assemblies and sub-assemblies to the highest standards of workmanship, in one or more of the following skill functions circuit card assemblies, cables, and boards, test sets, and ground support equipment. Members are NASA certified (to NASA Standards) to cable, crimp and harness, soldering of electrical connections, PWBs and surface mount technology assemblies. Members are proficient and knowledgeable with the use of all varieties of crimp and solder cup connectors and display and possess efficient and knowledgeable use of a wide variety of crimping tools. Members are able to fabricate cables and harness from blueprints and schematics with minimal supervision utilizing small components. Will train less experienced personnel. Job Specifications and Work Performed: (May include all of, or a combination of, the job skills listed items below) Participates in fabrication and/or integration activities of high reliability aerospace hardware. Fabricate and integrate high reliability aerospace hardware under direction, including: - Assembly of Cables and Harnesses utilizing formal processes for cutting, forming, crimping, soldering, potting, and DITMCO testing Assembly of Circuit Cards utilizing formal processes for lead forming, soldering (SMT and Through Hole), bonding, conformal coating, and screen printing. - Box-Level Assembly and Integration - Test Sets and Support Equipment - Integrated Test Assemblies - Provide input to design and project engineering communities during design & manufacturing phases of projects. - Work to complex engineering drawings, process specifications, sketches or verbal instructions - Operates complex measuring equipment and utilizes various precision measuring techniques to integrate and validate aerospace hardware. - Recognize familiar manufacturing problems and resolve those issues with assistance. Perform diagnostic activities. Execute corrective action as instructed by procedures or by others. - Perform various tests of moderate complexity on both development items and deliverables fabricated, wired and assembled to insure conformance to established standards and specifications. May assist in diagnosing and correcting failures in the general functioning of equipment. - Assist in the evaluation of product design for manufacturability, to ensure compatibility and economy with current and planned manufacturing capabilities. Work with engineering functions to develop improvements on product and processes to increase manufacturability of product. - Assist in the preparation of manufacturing instruction and test procedures for the purpose of releasing product for construction and maintaining correct change and documentation records. - Completes layouts and assists in developing details of test equipment and test fixtures used in production test working from engineering drawings, schematics, sketches, work instructions, and verbal instructions. - Perform special and/or other assignments as requested by the assembly supervisor. Check work and assist in the training of other employees as requested. - Administrative: Maintain good records in support of product traceability and identify problem areas in test/assembly. Competencies Needed: - Capable of holding close tolerances during the fabrication of complex electrical assemblies. - Able to handle multiple, shifting priorities - Attention to detail - Strong organizational skills - Written and verbal communication skills - Computer Literacy - Able to work independently and/or as part of a team (self-directed) Experience Requirements: Equivalent Education Level Required: High School graduate and two or more years of formal technical training or equivalent (approved apprenticeship program). Experience Required: Minimum of 2-4 years applicable work experience in the fabrication and integration of electronic assemblies. Prior work experience for space-related programs is desirable. Experience in low-volume manufacturing and/or prototyping environment preferred. Working Condition: Clean Room environment, laboratory, manufacturing area, or research areas requiring the ability to stand or sit for long periods of time. Personal protective equipment maybe required. Position may require the ability to work with computers, tools, and other equipment, and to lift up to 25 pounds. The ability to work with a microscope for measuring and assembly is a plus. Ability to travel to different locations in Rochester and be flexible with work time schedules. May require traveling to the customers or vendors facilities to provide on site support.
