WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? The Hartford Financial ProductsRegional Office Sales Underwriter/Executive Underwriteris accountable for executing sales and underwriting activities that enable achievement of operating plan objectives for the New Jersey sales territorywith regard to D&O, EPLI, Fiduciary, Crime, E&O, K&R, Employed Lawyers and Cyber. He/She is responsible for portfolio management, underwriting, pricing and servicing of Hartford Financial Products business in order to establish Hartford as the provider of choice for these products. The Hartford Financial Products Regional Office Sales Underwriter/Executive Underwriter is required to make frequent/appropriate travel to assigned agents in order to solidify relationships while increasing Hartford's penetration of the agents existing book of business. Production accountability will involve development of a Territorial Sales Plan, including an agency marketing plan, and implementation and monitoring of individual agency sales plans. He/She will be held accountable for achieving the strategic and operating plan objectives for profit, production and service as established by the regional office and Hartford Financial Products business unit. WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES? * Territory Analysis and Planning * Matches business opportunities in the marketplace with segment, division, and local office strategies and operating plans. * Comprehends segment / industry strategy; identifies agents who can and will execute initiatives that will support these strategies. * Creates tactical sales plans; tracks results and executes necessary corrective actions. * Develops a robust pipeline of prospective accounts and effectively move inventory through the pipelines. * Portfolio Management * Focuses sales activities from a "big picture" or book of business perspective. * Works with Business Center counterparts to consistently assess book trends and develop actions to address potential negative and positive impacts. * Identifies profitable versus unprofitable agents within territory and identifies negative profit trends in the books of unprofitable agents. * Utilizes the Producer Evaluation Document to detail profit issues, financial impact, action plan and rationale and meets with producers to communicate action plan and consequences. * Manages, follows up, and reports out on action plan initiatives and results. * Sales Excellence * Leverages available selling tools such as programs, incentives, services, etc. to develop options and negotiate win-win deals. * Asks probing questions and listens acutely to uncover the customer's circumstances, needs, motivations and concerns. * Articulates and sells The Hartford's Value Proposition, including its distribution, geographic, products, and strategies, etc. * Sells The Hartford's service strengths and demonstrates to agents the unique advantages of HFP in meeting prospects' and current customers' business needs. * Demonstrate excellent working relationships with all business associates leading to high level of customer satisfaction. This includes agents, internal/external customers, and sales and service center staff. * Technical/Underwriting Discipline & Product Knowledge * Demonstrates ability to properly analyze, select and price segment business. * Demonstrates skill in analysis of loss and risk information, recognition of "red flags" and inconsistencies in information, appropriate evaluation and efficiency in determining and obtaining "need to know" information. * Effective in utilizing underwriting knowledge to successfully carry out respective profit and growth initiatives. * Demonstrates underwriting acumen in making business decisions to manage book mix and leverages production opportunities to ensure territory profitability. * Knows the Hartford Financial Products risk appetite and proactively communicates it to agents. * Understands and communicates rationale for underwriting decisions. * Maintains a thorough understanding of Hartford Financial Product's target programs and products. * Knowledgeable in segment coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilizes forms and exclusions; effectively articulates features/benefits of Hartford programs, products and services. * Application of Technology * Utilizes automation tools to support the underwriting process. * Uses technology to access information to stay abreast of current issues and trends affecting the insurance industry, competitive data, risk/class specific information, marketplace data, etc. WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES? QUALIFICATIONS * BS degree strongly preferred. Advanced degree or CPCU, RPLU, IIA or CIC a strong plus. * Minimum 2 years of direct product underwriting experience with any ability to handle technical underwriting issues in multiple product areas -D&O, EPLI, Fiduciary, Crime, E&O, K&R, Employed Lawyers and Cyber. * Demonstrated track record of success in exceeding sales objectives and developing strategic, productive agency relationships. * Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn internal Customer & Agency Account Management systems. * Ability to travel 10% with some infrequent overnight travel.
