Work Schedule: Full Time/Part Time Salary: $73,100 ?? $113,007 GS-12 - GS-13* Location: Washington, DC metropolitan area The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity, Reasonable Accommodations Staff (OEEO/RAS) has openings for certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters. Successful candidates must be energetic self-starters with well developed interpersonal and communications skills. Additionally, he or she would bring to the job demonstrated abilities to manage complex interoffice and interagency projects tailored to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing customers requirements. Successful candidates must display the ability to thrive in a challenging, creative and informal working environment. In the part time position, candidates would work 24 - 32 hours a week. This position requires the ability to travel all Agency buildings. Foreign and Domestic temporary duty (TDY) travel may be required. Due to the variety of positions held by the Agencys Deaf and hard-of-hearing employees, our interpreters must be flexible when it comes to assignments, have a diverse vocabulary, and a dedication to their customers. *Skill level and certifications will be considered when determining grade and rate of pay. Minimum requirements include: * Ability to work within a changing schedule * Outstanding communications skills * Strong Signing and voicing skills * Excellent customer service skills * Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds (customers, colleges and management) * Broad knowledge of technical and human resource vocabulary * Strong understanding of ASL and Deaf culture * RID CI/CT or NAD Level 4 or 5 certification * National Interpreter Certification (Advanced or Masters) All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation.
