Biochemist Job ID: 2009-2731 Location: US-MD-Rockville Experience (Years): 2 Company: Canon US Life Sciences Category: Life Sciences More information about this job: Overview: Canon U.S. Life Sciences, Inc. is currently seeking a Biochemist to work with senior scientific staff in the development and testing of molecular diagnostic systems. The position will conduct independent experiments and carry out product development activities with minimal supervision for the purpose of developing diagnostic instrumentation. Responsibilities: * Assist Senior Scientists in the development and testing of molecular diagnostics systems * Work under minimal supervision to design and carry out experiments and development activities * Maintain impeccable records from raw data including data books and computer generated data files, quantitative analysis of data, laboratory protocols, and summary reports. * Required to handle biological materials and wastes. Occasionally may be required to work with hazardous chemicals and infectious agents. Qualifications: * BS degree in Biochemistry or relevant scientific field * Minimum 2 years of post-undergraduate research experience in laboratory setting with practical experience in nucleic acid assay development. * Strong background in nucleic acid biochemistry including familiarity with broad range of analytical methods such as solid phase genomic DNA extraction and purification, quantitative PCR assays, and electrophoresis. * Familiarity with genomic databases and data mining tools, as well as experience with DNA sequencing technologies preferred. * Strong analytical abilities required for design of experiments, data analysis, and reporting. * Excellent verbal/written communication skills and teamwork skills required.
