Portal Manager

Portal Manager Role (Agency or Community of Practice)

1.  Manages the portal at the agency level .

Portal & Community Management
o Manage all objects contained in the administration structure
o Develop and maintain standards and templates, including coding, for the community and all it’s sub-communities
o Coordinate the work of community and Content Portlet Developers to follow standards and make use of reusable portlets, templates, etc.
o Create and maintain the communities and sub-communities
oConfigure and maintain community security
o Develop and configure community portlets and page layouts
o Develop and maintain the content used on the community pages
o Collaboration Server Management
o Configure and maintain security to collaboration projects


Publisher Server Management

oDevelop and manage the use of standardized templates in Publisher

(Special Note: Development of custom content portlets, significant modification of existing content portlets or development of content portlets with advanced functionality, requires intermediate to advanced HTML skills and an advanced understanding of Publisher Server. Completion of the Content Portlet Developer Curriculum or equivalent study of Publisher is strongly recommended).

o Create and maintain security on folders in Publisher
o Configure and maintain workflow on folders in Publisher

2.  Portal Manager forms the portal technical and community teams including, but not limited to community managers, content portlet developers, and content owners.

3.  Audits and enforces use of enterprise standards and templates.

4.  Manages the Knowledge Directory at the Portal Manager’s level of oversight (CoP, agency, including uploading files and creating links that may be used on a variety of pages throughout the portal, including other agencies’ portal sites.

oCreate and maintain content sources, content types, and content crawlers
oMaintains job configuration, and manages scheduling

5.  Participates in enterprise portal governance, and keeps team up-to-date with decisions and directives.

Requirements for Portal Manager Candidates
1.  A history of successfully deploying websites from initiation to completion.
2.  Demonstrated knowledge and use of HTML (basic to intermediate level) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
3.  Experience developing websites that conform to usability and IT accessibility standards.
4.  Leadership, organizational and time management skills required, specifically to coordinate the activities of Community Managers and Content Portlet Developers.
5.  Ability to work in collaboration with the community of editors and contributors who will be providing and refreshing the content for the portal site.
6.  Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
7.  Experience with the Oracle WebCenter Interaction portal suite.

Preferred Experience in the Following Areas
1.  Demonstrated knowledge and use of HTML at an advanced level.
2.  Working knowledge of Java, .NET or both as well as JavaScript.
3.  Website and/or graphic arts design, particularly User Interface (UI) and page layout.
4.  Experience in communications and/or press-office operations as it relates to publishing information for public consumption.
5.  Strong academic record at a competitive university with a degree in MIS, Computer Science, or equivalent coursework.
6.  Databases: Experience in working with MS SQL databases.
