AVP, Misc Professional Liability Claims

Title: AVP, Misc Professional Liability Claims Location: New York-New York WHY JOIN THE HARTFORD? We are an industry leader providing insurance solutions through complex policies referred to as "financial products", which include claims-made D&O, E&O and EPL policies. We seek candidates for the position of Assistant Vice President, Miscellaneous Professional Liability Claims.

This role includes functional oversight of a myriad of complex and mainstream claims evolving from business relationships while ensuring the consistent delivery of high quality work. Key deliverables for success include application of core claims excellence standards and delivery of consistent and repeatable products to customers and business stakeholders. Responsible for ensuring that Claims Consultants have the tools and training required for consistently delivering high quality work product and superior service. Responsibilities include: 1)  Manage team of Claims Consultants ensuring staff understand and execute on key standard expectations. Provide functional oversight and management of liability and damages evaluations and coverage issues and extending of reserve and settlement authority. Monitor claim files to ensure standards are consistently adhered to to improve transactional effectiveness. Assist in the completion of data trending analysis and assist in the development and implementation of initiatives designed to improve financial performance and transactional efficiencies. Effectively assess and manage claim volumes and align with appropriate consultant skill and capacity. 2)  Guide claim outcomes for cases within the applicable lines of business ranging from limited exposure to high severity exposure or industry impact-type cases within the Miscellaneous Professional Liability Claims arena. Enable and support the development of proactive claim handling practices and protocols that focus on resolution management. Recognize changes in legal landscape and ensure appropriate modifications of claims handling. Be a thought leader and technical expert to the business for new product development, client relationship strategies and training of business partners. Develop and execute on appropriate reporting projects to ensure key stakeholders are timely and adequately informed of case and industry developments. 3)  Attract, develop, retain and engage direct staff. Model core competencies and lead by example. Accountable for developing a diverse and engaged work environment who are motivated to deliver a high quality product. Ensure high potential staff has development plans and are groomed for increased accountability.  Ensure less effective performers are coached and managed for improved performance. Qualified Candidates should meet all of the following requirements: 1)  Undergraduate degree; advanced degreed (J.D., M.B.A.) strongly preferred. 2)  A minimum of 8 years of insurance claims experience, preferably in the area of handling professional liability claims. 3)  Experience with liability and coverage issues; critical legal evaluation and developing proactive claims strategies. Strong time management skills. 4)  3-5 years of staff management experience. Proven experience in attracting, developing and retaining talent. 5)  Superior technical expertise with complex Miscellaneous Professional Liability (MPL) claims. 6)  Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written; strong ability to influence and negotiate favorable outcomes.
