A client of ours in King of Prussia, PA is looking to bring on a Lead BI Architect to play a critical role in an enterprise-wide project. Our client is embarking on a strategic project to build a next generation Business Intelligence Platform that will serve internal and external data consumers on a global scale. A key component of this project is a new Reporting and Analytics Tool and a new underlying data warehouse data model that will support it. The new BI tool architecture will be constructed on best-of-breed tools and be designed with the following in mind: self-service reporting and analysis, flexibility, scalability, data security and offshore development/supportability. This new senior lead position will be in the Products and Technology Group and will play a key role in the selection of a new BI tool, the design of the new BI architecture, the phased implementation planning and delivery. Strong coordination with the current data warehouse operations team will be required to understand the current state and then jointly define a migration path from old code to new code from a development and support perspective. This position is ideal for a candidate who has a good mix of senior level communication and planning experience combined with a strong desire to be involved in hands-on design and problem solving support to project teams as they build out the next generation product on a daily basis. Responsibilities: Responsibilities include: • Working with current data warehouse operations team to understand the current DW architecture state and challenges experienced • Leading the evaluation and selection of a new Business Intelligence Tool for the next generation DW environment • Facilitating the gathering, consolidation and prioritization of client business requirements • Documentation and presentation of business requirements for a variety of audiences including client executives, project managers, end users and technical designers and developers • Definition of a roadmap/design document for the new business intelligence architecture (tool) that ensures self-service, flexibility, scalability, offshore development/support capability, and security. • Developing an architecture standards document for future code design, team based-development and code release management in the new architecture. • Leading initial data modeling activities to adjust the current DW model to support new requirements and eliminate past constraints on flexibility. • Working with current data warehouse team to define a phased migration path from the old report base to new architecture • Working with the project team to validate the scope and requirements for the incremental releases of some existing reports and a planned sunset of many legacy reports in favor of a self-service approach. • Serving as a primary thought leader on the business intelligence tool (yet to be selected) and its capabilities. • Working with the Lead ETL Architect to ensure that the next generation ETL architecture is meeting the data integration requirements for downstream reporting by both internal users as well as external consumers • Working with portfolio development and sales teams to understand evolving market place requirements for reporting, analytics and data mining to ensure that the phased business intelligence rollout is aligned to meet those requirements. • Working with department management to prioritize work and allocate funding on an annual basis to support each incremental phase of development and required capital expenditures for dev/test/production capacity. • Ensuring vision, design and projects are in alignment with company business strategy and Product Management vision. • Working closely with product development project managers to define resources, estimates, project plans needed for future phases. • During the execution of each phase, assume an active project roll and support development team leads during requirements, design, testing and implementation rollout. • Providing hands-on problem-solving assistance with data integration and data profiling tools to team leads and developers. • Working closely with the data warehouse operations team to ensure a smooth transition from new product development to production operation and support
Qualifications: Requirements: • 10+ years of full life-cycle experience in Data Warehousing and business intelligence • A successful track record of delivering complex business intelligence projects on time. • Strong knowledge of performance tuning tactics appropriate at each layer within a business intelligence/data-warehouse environment (Oracle related experience is preferred) • Experience with determining requirements, evaluating vendors, and playing a key role in a BI tool selection project effort • Significant experience providing technical design review, development plan critique, code review, test plan/results review • Deep experience with one or more best-of-breed BI tools is required (Business Objects, Cognos, Microstrategy) - setup, configuration, design best practices, performance optimization, team based development approaches. • Experience with BI tools on the Linux/Unix platform • Experience with complex reporting requirements in a global company (e.g. data sources from multiple regions in different time zones, character sets, and report business rules) • Interaction with senior executives to convey technical concepts and assist in messaging about benefits of next generation platform. • Strong understanding of relational database concepts - data modeling, SQL, query optimization, data warehouse architecture • Strong hands on data modeling and demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into a data model structure (dimensional or snowflake) • Knowledge of metadata technologies, techniques and approaches for capturing and distributing BI metadata • Knowledge of data profiling technologies, techniques and approaches for utilizing as part of upfront analysis and production control operations. • Marketplace awareness of evolving BI topics such as data mining, service-oriented data integrations, master data management and near real-time operational reporting approaches • eCommerce, Retail, Supply Chain Management experience preferred, but not required • Experience estimating BI development work and creating a matching resource plan. • Strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills • Ability to coordinate across multiple infrastructure groups and assist in deployment planning. • BA/BS in Computer Science, Business or related field Please refer to job code 1889 when responding to this ad.
