Reference # : 09-02674 Title : Data Architect Location : Hoboken, NJ Experience Level : Start Date : Mon, Sep 21, 2009 Description The Data Architect will work closely with users, systems designers and developers across the project team. This person will report to the Project Manager and work very closely with the enterprise architecture team. The Data Architect needs to be able to have an end-to-end vision, and the ability to translate logical design into one or more physical Databases, and how the Data will flow through the successive stages involved. The DA will need to be able to address issues of Data Migration (Validation, Clean-up and Mapping), and will need to understand the importance of Data Dictionaries. A strong desire to establish standards and the use of best practices is needed in this role. Responsibilities: * Design and development of logical and physical data models for N&A/MDM and enterprise application data stores and their interfaces * Analyze the current dispersed N&A databases across 7+ global systems and associated applications and rationalize these into a single master database * Ensure transformations from existing data structures into the enterprise data model, working closely with the architecture team * Ensure consistency in conformed dimensions, data cleansing, data integrity, data quality as part of the N&A implementation * Ensure software deliverables are of high quality and in conformance with industry and project standards * Analyzes needs and requirements of existing and proposed systems, and develops technical specifications * Ability to map business process models to data models, and create Object/Relational models to support serialization to the database * Participate in continuous improvement efforts in enhancing performance * Participate in test plan creation and the testing process * Perform the capacity planning required to create and maintain the N&A database Additional Responsibilities (if time permits from project duties) * Provide strategic thinking, solutions and roadmaps while driving architectural recommendations * Define and implement data strategies for the enterprise and as part of project life cycle(s) * Document and classify enterprise data standards for data stored in file servers, source systems, and archiving systems for the enterprise * Adopt and communicate new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices and technology * Establish an architecture roadmap covering transactional, operational data * Contribute substantially to the software architecture, and take ownership of the design and development of the data layer * Responsible for the development of logical data models and physical data base designs applied across multiple computing environments and optimized performance and optimal storage usage * Participate in design and code reviews, documentation of design, and implementation of methodologies to ensure high quality software * Serve as an expert resource on matters of data architecture to business and IT staff in all phases of database application development, implementation and support. Requirements: * 5+ years in architecting, developing, modeling, and deploying relational database systems * 5+ years of hands-on experience in relational database (Oracle & SQL), data modeling, database design (for both: logical and physical), with high availability systems * 5+ years in designing and constructing data architectures, operational data stores, and data marts. * Knowledge of data warehousing technologies and methodologies, including ETL tools * Understand key concepts of enterprise application integration * Ability to work with business users, subject matter experts, software architects to gather, clarify, and produce cohesive requirements * Analyze and make recommendations for balancing short-term constraints of a project against long-term maintenance challenges * An ability to create a data model migration approach and execution plan. * Experience with various tools such as Data migration and modeling * Structured Query Language (SQL) * Excellent analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively produce results * Independent thinker and the ability to lead and direct work to developers * MDM implementation experience is desirable but not required for this position * Knowledge of XML will a plus
