Principal Release Engineer Tracking Code 101479 Job Description POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES The Blackboard Product Development department has a proven track record of delivering quality products to our customer base.a The Release Engineering Team is responsible for both the enterprise application suite that supports Product Development workflows and the issues associated with building, testing and releasing Blackboard software products.a This support role is critical for the day-to-day operations of developing quality software and delivering it on time. The Principal Release Engineer will play an integral role in the success of the Release Engineering Team and the Product Development department as a whole.a Specifically s/he will be responsible for: * Installation, configuration and maintenance of Product Developments enterprise applications (Perforce SCM, Atlassian JIRA, Atlassian Confluence, Automation Scripts, Microsoft Project Server 2003, et al). * Developing, socializing and enforcing effective source code management processes and strategies in conjunction with key stakeholders across the department. * Working with technical leads to support the building, installation, testing, release and archival of new software development, service packs and hotfixes. * Serving as a technical visionary and master troubleshooter for the Release Engineering Team and Product Development department. Required Experience PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelors degree or equivalent working experience in a technical field.a This experience should result in the ability to understand complex technical requirements and communicate them clearly in a verbal or written format. * 7+ years of experience working in a Development, Release Engineering, Configuration Management or Systems Administration capacity. * Ability to manage technical projects including scoping, estimation, task breakdown, resource assignment and status follow-up. * Experience working with supporting distrusted development teams and environments. * Experience with advocating and implementing best practices for software release engineering; knowledge of software codeline management patterns. * Hands-on experience performing source code administration tasks with Perforce SCM or a similar revision control tool such as Subversion, CVS or IBM Rational ClearCase. * 3-5 years of hands-on experience with build tools (Ant), scripting languages (shell, Perl, Python) and Java. * Proven ability to innovate and improve existing systems.
