Senior Engineer, Steam Plant Chemistry The Steam Plant Chemistry unit has overall responsibility for evaluating and resolving technical issues related to condensate and boiler water chemistry in current and future naval nuclear propulsion plants. Condensate and boiler water chemistry are controlled to minimize corrosion product (sludge) transport into the boiler and minimize corrosion of steam plant components to support safe, reliable operation of the propulsion plant through end of service life. Principal areas of focus are: (1) current fleet and prototype propulsion plant operational support, (2) new propulsion plant design support, (3) development, testing, and implementation of alternate/improved condensate and boiler water chemistry, and (4) development, testing, and implementation of automated condensate and/or boiler water chemistry sampling and analysis methods in new propulsion plants. The initial focus of personnel selected to this position will be (1) fleet and prototype propulsion plant operational chemistry support and (2) new propulsion plant design support. This includes resolution of trouble records, liaison action requests, and fleet messages, as well as evaluation of plant design, operation, and maintenance optimization initiatives for current and new propulsion plants to improve availability, reduce cost and simplify plant design and operation, without impacting reliability. The position will require extensive interface with personnel responsible for propulsion plant systems design, as well as personnel at the Department of Energy/Department of Defense (Naval Reactors/Naval Sea Systems Command), naval shipyards, and forces afloat and may include occasional (but infrequent) travel. Future focus is likely to include development, testing, and implementation of automated chemistry sampling and analysis methods in new propulsion plant designs. Selected applicants will be subjected to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. U.S. citizenship is required. Job Requirements : Bachelors degree in Chemical, Material, Mechanical, Marine Engineering or related discipline with at least 5 years of professional experience related to Naval or commercial nuclear, merchant marine and maritime propulsion systems, or similar industrial systems. Other Skills :Strong problem solving and decision making skills (demonstrated ability to apply knowledge to solving practical technical issues).

Strong interface/teaming skills (demonstrated ability to effectively work with a diverse group of personnel, including propulsion plant systems designers, chemistry laboratory, Naval Reactors/Naval Sea Systems Command, naval shipyards, and forces afloat).

Strong verbal and written communication skills (e.g., demonstrated ability to express ideas in a clear, concise, and logical manner).

Basic understanding of fundamentals of chemistry control to minimize corrosion.
