Title:Sr. SQL DBA Location: Bala Cynwyd, PA Length: contract- hire Rate: DOE
A client of ours outside Philadelphia is looking to bring on a Sr. Level Database Administrator specializing in SQL Server (2000, 2005) Support and maintain SQL Databases and ensure their performance, availability, and security.
Major Responsibilities: - Ensure availability and performance of all SQL databases. - Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases are adequate and to ensure high availability and optimum performance. - Establish and maintain DBA-related Operational Handbook for SQL based systems. - Customize DBA-Requirements for new SQL projects. - Install, update, and patch (when necessary) SQL Database software including coordinating with OS Group the required Windows components. - Review all changes on database including review of the relevant documentation. - Implement solutions to monitor all aspects of the database from a central monitoring system. - React and resolve all database related warning and alarms from database monitoring system. - Provide database backup and recovery strategy and operations. - Tune database parameters for optimal performance following the Change Management Process while maintaining *cloned* and replicated database systems for testing and quality assurance purposes. - Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime. - Receive and react on *critical (security) patch* information sent by Microsoft. - Manage storage and capacity planning from the object level to the database file level. Include a forecast of growth to allow for changes in storage parameters when necessary. - Participate in database tuning - Add new indexes, drop indexes or change indexes based on performance analysis after scripts provided from or at least approved by the development DBA or vendor. - Provide trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management. - Escalate and manage problems to resolution through Microsoft Support, SQL Development Team and/or third parties as appropriate.
Minimum Education & Certifications Required: - Must have Bachelor*s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. - SQL Certification, preferably MCDBA
Experience & Skills Required: - 7+ years Proven SQL Database Administration experience. - 5+ years Experience of managing multiple RDBMS on large systems - Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability service. - Practical experience in monitoring and tuning to provide a high availability service. - Experience of other database systems, preferably Oracle . - Practical experience with Windows Operating Systems.
