With the consolidated capabilities of our regional laboratories and are expanding internationally, they are able to offer unequaled convenience in utilizing one laboratory for all diagnostic and prognostic clinical testing needs LOCATION: Madison, NJ DESCRIPTION: The Controller will act as an effective CFO of a business encompassing large scale operations in the US and UK, plus supporting operations in China, Singapore, Australia, India, Belgium and France. It supports the Global Clinical Trials business, and will have primary financial leadership responsibility in executing key business initiatives on an international basis. He/she will act as a bridge between the Corporate and the local teams and will be responsible for driving Business Unit financial results, closely monitoring operational / performance milestones and metrics, while insuring the accuracy of financial reporting and the integrity of the control environment. The individual is expected to work at the middle and senior management level on complex problems, business processes and organizational issues, and to contribute regularly both at the tactical and strategic levels. Individual must be able to exercise sound judgment with appropriate weight and gravitas given to the needs of the company and individual functions within the company. This position will include international travel. Role encompasses full P&L responsibility, balance sheet management, statutory accounts preparation in the UK, tax and VAT filings internationally, sales development support, business case development and capital appraisal/efficiency/control, business development and turnaround or re-engineering activities, internal controls responsibility, plus strong people management and development responsibilities. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, Clinical Trials & International Operations, the position has 3 direct reports (Assistant Controllers & Managers) and a total team size of 20. Expected to be a substantial change agent, both in terms of Finance and the broader Clinical Trials business. Visionary, with the character to translate that vision into practice. Able to influence all levels of the organization, including senior management decisions, in order to identify and drive best practices and achieve the Strategic Plan objectives of the business. Develop appropriate analytical models/schedules to ensure optimal profitability and efficiency of operations and contracts. Recommend corrective actions and challenge existing paradigms where appropriate. Drive the Business Unit and the function to the next level. Continually raise the bar. Drive improved costing principles in a highly complex environment. Prepare/coordinate accurate and timely operating and capital budgets, quarterly forecasts, analysis and trend reports, as well as enhancing existing reporting package to provide timelier decision-making. Low error rates, punctuality and professionalism in all output is a must. Insure the integrity and accuracy of the Business Units monthly financial statements. Coordinate the preparation, update and analyze monthly trending reports including but not limited to sales, profitability, productivity and accounts receivable. Coordinate and review requisitions for fixed asset acquisitions including analysis/justification, coordinating approval, routing and tracking capital expenditure vs. approved budget and forecast. Ensure tight control environment is maintained i.e. internal controls are adequate and functioning properly, and that finance provides real-time support in key business decision-making. This is not a maintenance area - candidate is expected to re-engineer and significantly improve the control environment. Manage local CT finance leaders and oversight of global billing function. Hire and develop financial leaders in CT. Develop appropriate pricing policies and standards, and ensure appropriate processes are in place for bids to meet profitability standards. Ensure processes are in place for accuracy and timeliness of billing. Ensure financial books and records are prepared in accordance with US GAAP and UK GAAP, company policies and local statutory requirements. Take a leadership role in Business Development activities (acquisitions and market development opportunities); prepare analytical materials / reports, manage diligence processes, and interact with key relationships regarding contract negotiations EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years of successful work experience in roles requiring increasingly diverse and broad management responsibility, with previous experience of at least 5 years in a Finance leadership role. Pharmaceutical experience is helpful, but not required. Knowledge of financial modeling techniques required. Strong computer skills required, especially in the use of spreadsheet software. Ability to meet frequent deadlines.
