Senior Assembler

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

* Assembles or tests fiber optic subassemblies using fiber optic equipment using best industry practices, available documentation and direction from coworkers. * Demonstrated learning ability at one work center or skill set.  Possible work centers or skill sets include the following:  Fiber optic splicing, Fiber optic organization, Fiber optic connectorization * Demonstrated ability to be trained and subsequently certified in an area of proficiency. * Maintain a neat and tidy work area that reflects the pride of CIENA. * Follow all guidelines for working practices including safety, standard work procedures, company policies and relevant certifications. * Requirements of this position include that the employee follow general norms established at CIENA.  These norms include the following: CIENA Corporation positive attitude including a willingness to change and adapt as we grow. * A conscientious observation to Quality for all aspects of production.  Each employee should thoroughly * understand all aspects of their job before starting.  If additional clarification is required, it is incumbent upon the employee to ask for help and continue asking until appropriate understanding is achieved. * Appropriate output based upon proven production techniques is expected. * It is appropriate to request that all people arrive on time.  Especially in a production organization where other people count on others output.  Therefore, repeated lateness or last-minute absenteeism will not be allowed.

•        Good eye-hand coordination coupled with excellent manual dexterity.

•        See and differentiate colors.  Possess good visual depth perception.

•        Ability to learn the use and application of fiber optic equipment consisting of cleavers, splicer, microscopes, power sources and meters, polishers, etc.

•        Skills to learn the assembly of fiber optic subsystems.

Education / Experience

* High school diploma or AA/BA and 3 to 5 years experience
