CNA Insurance is currently recruiting for a Claim Director for our Ocean Marine Division in New York City. This claim office supports the underwriting offices for ocean marine in Baltimore, MD. Boston, MA. New York City, NY. Cranbury, NJ. Melville, NY and Pittsburgh, PA. In addition, the office supports cargo policies written in Chicago and St Louis. This claim director will direct and mentor a staff of seven. The claim staff handles Hull, Cargo, P&I, marine related liabilities, excess and marine casualty. The director will also have direct oversight responsibility for the marine recovery unit and complex claims arising from our Boat US program. This individual will report to the Assistant Vice President of Marine Claim. Our offices are located at 40 Wall Street in New York. We seek an experienced ocean marine claim professional with a proven track record of developing staff and of managing to positive claim outcomes. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Directs the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction. 2. Contributes to profitability by effective implementation of claim handling best practices to direct loss cost and claim expenses. 3. Coaches, leads, and develops claims staff and directs the development of claims training programs. 4. Reviews and directs the application of claims policies, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations by subordinate staff. 5. Develops and implements operating plans for enhancing the business and meeting strategic objectives. 6. Participates with senior management in the development and implementation of claims policy and business strategy. 7. Reports business progress to senior management. 8. Keeps current on state/territory regulations and issues, industry activity and trends. May represent company in industry trade groups. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Required: 1. Ability to effectively lead, coach, and develop a claims group. 2. Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNAs internal and external business partners. 3. Technical and business management acumen, claims resolution skills and knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures. 4. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams. 5. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues. 6. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems. 7. Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives. 8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business related software. Education & Experience Required: 1. Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred. 2. Minimum of ten years of marine claims handling experience with a proven track record of results. At least 5 years of claim management experience is required.
