The Department of Chemistry is recruiting a Computer Operations Manager II to work at the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory located in Argonne, Illinois. The responsibilities include developing automatic data processing and data quality assessment system, data collection strategy systems and systems for novel data collection modes for our two currently operating undulator beam lines and the bending magnet beam line currently under construction. Will be responsible for management of the current beam line computers and overseeing the implementation of a new 8-node cluster as well as maintaining all station computers, logistics and operation management computing, and network communications. Qualifications Bachelors degree required with 3 but less than 5 years experience or equivalent, although a Masters degree preferred in computer systems analysis, computer programming, electrical engineering with a computer emphasis or a related field, with experience managing a multi-computer facility in a scientific environment. Applicants must have strong interpersonal skills in working closely and successfully with a diverse set of beamline users and other staff members as well as good communication skills, both oral and written. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with troubleshooting for software and hardware problems; a strong interest in scientific programming. Working knowledge of advanced programming languages such as Python and C++ as well as experience administering a Linux cluster are desirable assets as is prior experience with use of crystallography software and analysis of data from synchrotron sources.
