Compliance Attorney (CORP)

Assist the Company in monitoring and maintaining compliance with federal securities laws and self-regulatory organization rules Prepare and issue legal opinions identifying possible regulatory and litigation issues and work with the companys broker/dealers to develop "best practice" solutions Develop internal and external relationships to facilitate information sharing on industry best practices Perform legal reviews of divisions securities-related operations Works with operations to ensure "gaps" are filled Research and write legal opinions on complex securities issues Monitor new laws and regulatory activity, prepare summaries of significant activity for divisions operations and coordinate comments on regulatory rulemaking on behalf of the companies Provide backup legal assistance to divisions on compliance with laws, regulations and self-regulatory organization rules; assist as needed with document production, witness preparation, and other activities related to regulatory examinations and inquiries involving the securities operations of multiple divisions. Qualifications Requires a Juris Doctor degree and state Bar membership; one-three years experience as a securities lawyer with a focus on regulatory compliance issues; familiarity with investment advisor, mutual fund and broker-dealer operations and legal requirements; sound judgment, integrity, and patience; strong professional demeanor and personal characteristics to gain immediate credibility within the organization; the ability to develop strong partnership relationships within the company; the ability to suggest changes and maturely question policy procedures as appropriate; the ability to start and persist with courses of action and to exhibit high motivation and a sense of urgency; the ability to review, interpret and apply state and federal laws and regulations to division operating procedures; the ability to write effectively and persuasively and to research legal issues applicable to the companies operations; the ability to express opinions in spite of disagreement, accurately communicate opinions and information to others regardless of their status or position requirements; the ability to work independently and autonomously; the ability to work nontraditional hours, as required.  Must be available to travel. Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule The AEGON companys pay ranges are competitive, as they are driven by the external employment market. An annual bonus opportunity is available to regular employees.
