To respond to directions of the teacher and participate in the planning and implementation of classroom activities and IEPs. Responsible to provide supervision and protective oversight of assigned consumer throughout scheduled shift assignment to ensure his/her safety and well-being. Responsible to maintain ongoing knowledge and understanding of established levels of protective oversight and supervision requirements under the consumers individual plan care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. Responsible to provide supervision and protective oversight of particular assigned consumer throughout scheduled shift assignment to ensure their safety and well-being. Responsible to maintain ongoing knowledge and understanding of established level of protective oversight and supervision requirements under the consumers individual plan of care Implement Individual Education Plan through direct instruction and guidance from classroom teacher Implement behavior program and procedures for assigned student as directed. Assist teacher in maintaining appropriate cleanliness of room. Adhere to program policies and procedures including Universal Precautions. Attend and participate in staff development and training activities. Serve as Job Coach when necessary. Participate in daily bus duty by escorting your assigned student to the classroom from the lobby in the morning and from the classroom to the lobby in the afternoon. Attend and actively participate in team and staff meetings. Assist with other students when assigned student is not present. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Paraprofessional Certificate with one year experience in Special Education, mentally challenged or seriously emotionally disturbed populations or related field. 60 college coursework credit hours with one year experience in Special Education, mentally challenged or seriously emotionally disturbed populations or related field. A.A. or Bachelors Degree Demonstrated training in behavior management principles and process; experience working in a school or educational program setting serving mentally retarded, other mentally challenged or dually diagnosed children.
