For more information about Fannie Mae and our career opportunities, please visit www.fanniemae.com JOB INFORMATION The Enterprise Economic Capital function is responsible for the accurate, consistent measurement and analysis of Economic Capital (EC) use at the top of the house. The Senior Financial Economist will be responsible for supporting and improving the EC calculations, particularly in the areas of Single Family and Capital Markets credit risk. The successful candidate will participate in the analysis and communication of results at all levels of the organization, from practitioners and risk managers to executive management. The Enterprise Risk Reporting and Risk Capital group engages in methodology approval for risk-adjusted capital measures, aggregation, analysis and reporting in support of the Enterprise Risk Management function. KEY JOB FUNCTIONS Methodology Review and Approval * Review current Single Family and Capital Markets credit risk EC calculation results and methodologies. * Track model changes, proposed updates from primary model owners and understand model validation results prior to EC production acceptance. * Request or conduct ad hoc analysis as needed such as sensitivity studies or additional change attribution. * Ensure compliance with applicable policies. Research and Development of Risk Metrics and Alternative Measures * Research issues in EC estimation such as allocation, diversification and forecasting. * Develop stress-tests and/or research third party alternative modeling to check production EC results. * Contribute to the development of return on economic capital methodologies. * Determine feasibility for a range of solvency comparators (available financial resources) such as core capital, stockholders equity, tier I capital, etc. Analysis and Communication of Results * Act as lead analyst for the Single Family and Capital Markets credit risk production cash flow models. * Participate in the generation of detailed and executive summary reports identifying the key risk components and trend analysis of the EC requirements. * Field ad hoc requests and solicit feedback from customers. * Represent the unit in EC measurement discussions with both internal and external audiences to communicate results, current modeling choices and explore further refinements. Support a Controlled and Auditable Production Environment * Participate in the production of corporate data set inputs and reconcile top of the house exposures with systems of record * Collect and/or write required documentation for Single Family and Capital Markets credit risk-related EC models. * Contribute to the porting of the current application to a more robust framework. Participate in Team Activities as needed * Contribute to market, operational and other credit risk EC modeling and measurement as appropriate. * Participate in planning and project prioritization as needed.Partner with professional system developers for the purpose of maintaining or expanding the analytical infrastructure used to evaluate EC requirements. Qualifications EDUCATION * Master, PhD or Other Advanced Degree - preferred MINIMUM EXPERIENCE 7 years of related experience SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS * Advanced finance, economics, math, statistics or related degree. * 7 years of credit risk modeling experience, preferably cash flow based. * Knowledge of Single Family mortgage credit risk modeling desirable. * Working knowledge of advanced statistical concepts, tools and their application. * Familiarity with bank capital standards, economic capital experience preferred. * Strong written and oral communication skills. * Proficiency in one or more of the following: SAS, Matlab, VBA (Excel), PL/SQL EMPLOYMENT As a condition of employment with Fannie Mae, any successful job applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and to successfully complete a background investigation, which may also include a credit check for positions in some areas of our business.
