Technical Writer, User Assistance Tracking Code 101504 Job Description The Blackboard Product Development team has a proven track record of delivering high quality products to our customer base. We are looking for a motivated, skilled, quality minded, and detail oriented individual to join our Washington, D.C. team. The Technical Writer is responsible for developing tool tips and help within the user interface as well as writing end-user guides. The Technical Writer participates in the overall strategic planning of Blackboards user assistance, creates standards for online help, and evaluates the quality of end-user assistance in both online and traditional formats. The Technical Writer is familiar with industry standards for user assistance in Web applications and will use that knowledge to spark innovation. Responsibilities * Develop tool tips and user interface help. * Conduct editorial reviews of content produced by other writers * Innovate new methods of communicating information to system end-users. * Develop and maintain standards and guidelines for tool tips and interface help. * Work closely with the User Experience and Design teams to match help text in the user interface to real-world goals. * Serve as the user interface expert on the larger Content Development team. * Innovate process and leverage tools for maximum efficiency. Required Experience QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have a strong background in user assistance and communications, with demonstrated experience developing innovative resources for non-technical end-users. Required * Bachelors degree, preferably in a field related to Communications or Computer Science. * Excellent writing, analysis, and technical skills * Ability to quickly learn complex content * Ability to identify creative solutions * Ability to consider both the big picture and the details * Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to client satisfaction * Superior ability to quickly understand technical material and communicate it to a non-technical audience Preferred * Demonstrated experience with XML-based authoring solutions and the Adobe Creative Suite * Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in user assistance and interface design * 3 years experience working in Software Development in technical writing, interface design, or user assistance * Proven problem-solver that excels with minimal supervision.
