Senior Controls Engineer

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will utilize your technical and communication skills to design, install and troubleshoot operations systems and equipment, develop and install new production processes, and participate in overall improvement activities leading to better efficiencies, lower costs, better quality, improved safety, and improved response to customer needs based on input obtained from cross functional sources.

To perform these activities, the Senior Controls Engineer will need to collaborate with other engineering disciplines, production, maintenance, and contract personnel to create and oversee the design and build of controls systems; create process equipment controls specifications for new and modified systems; validate, install, and commission new systems.

A successful Senior Controls Engineer will have excellent analytical skills to be applied in design, programming, and troubleshooting of process based systems utilizing Allen-Bradley PLCs, Control Logix, HMI Factory Talk View, GE PLCs (90-30) and Cimplicity (Proficy), Fiber Optic and Ethernet networks, as well as other PLC architectures and systems as required.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, eliminating control systems issues and manage small to medium size controls projects.

Develops and maintains process system databases that are integral parts to the manufacturing process control and monitoring systems.

Designs and develops new control and monitoring systems following ISA and CSI standards, including

* Process control systems * Machine control systems * Production floor (MES) systems * Other systems as required.

Performs start up assistance and training for control and monitoring systems.

Develops and implements wireless communication systems for manufacturing.

Collaborates with Engineering and Information Technology resources for the integration and resolution of server, PC, database, HMI, fiber optic and Ethernet networks, Visual Basic, and other hardware or software related issues.

Develops and maintains documentation and control engineering drawings for new and existing systems, to include, but not limited to, SOPs, training manuals, Functional Requirements Documents, Functional Specification Documents, and P&IDs.

On call availability to offer support to production facilities in the event of controls emergencies

Required Experience

Required Qualifications:

* BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience. * Minimum of ten years experience in process Senior Controls Engineering, process support and project management, preferably from a liquid products industry (paint, food, beverage, household product, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical). * Will have the ability to collaboratively analyze and evaluate controls and automation systems, and to work with operating and corporate personnel to implement changes in systems, equipment, and procedures that result in operational improvement. * The Senior Controls Engineer must have an understanding of PLC architecture and have experience writing functional requirements and specifications. Must have the ability to create and modify PLC ladder logic. Must be able to integrate instrumentation, vision systems, bar code scanners, servo motors, stepper motors, and multi-axis robots into control systems. * The Senior Controls Engineer will have PLC and high level language programming skills, i.e. Visual Basic, C/C++. * The Senior Controls Engineer must have strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, writing, project management, negotiation, influence, teamwork, analytical and decision-making skills, as well as a strong attention to detail. * Strong computer literacy with significant experience in MS Office, including Microsoft Project. Must be able to develop P&IDs and other support drawings utilizing AutoCAD / AutoCAD Lite. * Requires frequent travel. * In depth knowledge of the requirements of NEC, IEC, NFPA and other relevant codes as they apply to controls systems.
