Title: Strategic Sourcing Analyst Location: New Jersey-Franklin Lakes General Function: The Strategic Sourcing Analyst is responsible for providing analytical support for programs, processes, and initiatives related to Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management, which may include internal and external spend; supplier, market and economic factors that impact key spend categories; supply base risk; supplier performance data management; ISO coordination, as well as metrics and reporting related to the above. The Strategic Sourcing Analyst is expected to acquire a broad base knowledge of the areas for which he/she is responsible, providing support to Strategic Sourcing Managers, BD businesses and global procurement in general. The Strategic Sourcing Analyst will also provide system support in all supplier related matters, and work with stakeholders to maintain and validate data. Strategic Orientation: The Strategic Sourcing Analyst exercises judgment and draws on in-depth knowledge to provide information and perform market and economic factor analyses for BD's internal customers. Typical internal analyses and tasks include spend analysis, the use of BD's ERP systems with respect to key categories, regions and/or businesses; supplier risk assessments, including liquidity, business continuity & pandemic; quality and regulatory monitoring; maintaining critical segmentation and other vendor data; supporting benchmarking activities. External analyses may include market, economic and other research data, inflation, currency and oil pricing. These analyses are conducted in alignment with the appropriate elements of the BD strategic sourcing process. On an ongoing basis, the Strategic Sourcing Analyst monitors, analyzes and synthesizes changes to the internal and external drivers that can impact future performance. The Strategic Sourcing Analyst may support the set up of RFXs and e-auctions for the company's e-sourcing system. From a quantitative reasoning perspective, regardless of the analytical task, the Strategic Sourcing Analyst: * Interprets mathematical models such as graphs, tables, metrics and schematics and draws inferences from them * Estimates and considers analysis of data in order to determine root causes and opportunities for improvement * Represents quantitative information numerically, symbolically and visually using graphs and charts Sphere of Influence: The Strategic Sourcing Analyst reports to a Director Company Procurement or other department associate as designated. The Strategic Sourcing Analyst interfaces with a wide range of internal customers in the course of performing market, economic and spend analyses, but must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The sphere of influence can extend to peers, team members, BD sites, corporate functions and key stakeholders to gather information to support business cases for categories and procurement processes. Required Skills and Knowledge: The Strategic Sourcing Analyst must demonstrate competencies in the following areas: * Significant independent capability with quantitative and financial analysis * Cost management practices, with history of delivery against targets * IT systems including the Microsoft Office Suite, an ERP system and internet search engines * Ability to multi-task and work effectively for a wide range of internal customers under tight deadlines; present data and proposals logically; time management and project prioritization * Supply market research and data analysis The following competencies are preferred, but not necessarily required: * Manufacturing and Supply Chain * Project Management * Familiarity with ISO and/or Third Party Certification programs Experience: * A minimum of two years of business experience required, with some experience in research or a related field desired. * Knowledge of purchasing principles and practices would be useful * Knowledge of financial accounting principles and practices would be useful. Education: * A bachelor's degree in business management or related field is required. * A concentration in research or related field is desired. Travel requirements: * Up to 25%, depending on BD work location and assigned spend categories Degree of Accountability: The Strategic Sourcing Analyst is responsible for timely delivery of accurate information to support strategic decision making, and in doing so must be sensitive to internal customer deadlines. Additional responsibilities may include database administration and support of selected procurement programs. The associate must be able to translate internal customer requirements into actionable tasks and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Financial Impact: The Strategic Sourcing Analyst is accountable for delivering accurate data in a timely manner to support key business decisions that can affect BD financial performance.
