KIPP NYC Middle Schools (Grades 5-8): 2010-11 Teaching Positions Available For Brooklyn, Harlem, and South Bronx Locations Category: Teach at KIPP NYC - All Openings Teaching Level: Middle School City - State - Country: US-NY- More information about this job: Overview: KIPP NYC (www.kippnyc.org) is the family of KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) charter schools and related services in New York City, all dedicated to teaching students the academic and character skills necessary for success in high school, college, and beyond. Our NYC programs include four KIPP public middle schools (KIPP Academy, KIPP AMP, KIPP STAR, and KIPP Infinity) and KIPP Through College, a comprehensive advocacy program that supports the success of our alumni in their post-KIPP years. In summer 2009, we opened KIPP NYC College Prep High School, which serves the students graduating from our middle schools. We also opened KIPP Academy Elementary School, the first of four elementary schools that will join with our middle schools, high school, and KIPP Through College to provide our students and families with a K-16 continuum of programming and services. In August 2010, KIPP NYC will open an elementary school in Harlem. KIPP NYC serves over 2,100 KIPP students and alumni, employs 200 remarkably talented professionals, and has a combined operating budget of nearly $30 million. Upon realizing our current growth plan, KIPP NYC will serve over 3,500 students and employ more than 300 staff. Responsibilities: KIPP NYC is looking for teachers who combine the ability to motivate and educate, to develop academic as well as character skills, and to make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future. General responsibilities include (but are not limited to): * Teaching a rigorous college preparatory curriculum which combines the school’s standards and the New York State standards. * Teaching students in a high-quality, exciting way. * A commitment to constant professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachers. * Constantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleagues. * Providing individual or small group instruction for students who need additional assistance. * Modeling the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff.
