Job Summary Under technical direction, responsible for underwriting risks in a book of MPL/Technology business. Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination. Utilizes underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1. Reviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring complex underwriting skills. Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards. Also, determines the need for additional evidence of insurability and appropriate strategy. 2. Determines appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements. 3. Prepares quotes and answers questions from agencies, policyholders or other external contacts and escalates issues to management as necessary. Negotiates with agents to reach positive and profitable outcomes. 4. Notifies agencies of adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations. 5. Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports for management review. 6. May market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community. Develops and maintains agency and/or broker relationships. 7. May provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas. 8. Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. 9. Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling. May perform additional duties as assigned. Identify new Media, Technology, Network Security/Privacy and Misc Professional Liability business targets and opportunities; Analyze and underwrite individual risks. Develop appropriate limit structure, retention, pricing and endorsements within authority granted. Review coverage requests provided by agent and determine departments position relating to such requests within individual authority granted. Work closely with producer/agent to ensure department receives opportunity to offer proposal; Solicit new accounts, gather market intelligence and deliver up-to-date department information relating to products and services; Perform required number of broker marketing calls. Manage select agency relationships to ensure objectives are achieved; Manage personal book of business; Continue to develop and update product and underwriting knowledge; Meet all divisional servicing objectives including but not limited to quote turnaround, policy issuance, phone management, file maintenance and documentation, etc. Maintain data integrity within the underwriting system; Maintain up-to-date familiarity with economic and legal factors that impact the departments lines of business and the overall insurance industry. Qualifications 5+ years of Professional Liability underwriting experience with experience in one or more of the following segments 1. Miscellaneous E&O (MPL) 2. Media Liability 3. Cyber Liability / Technology Liability College degree or equivalent professional designations Strong marketing abilities Established broker relationships, and the ability to establish new relationships Please refer to job code 7879 when responding to this ad.
