This position is located in the Legal Division, New York Regional Office of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and performs a variety of legal technician, general clerical, and specialized clerical functions. Key Requirements: * . Position Information: Competitive service This is a term appointment limited to two years which may be extended to a maximum of 4 years. Major Duties: Prepare standardized legal forms and documents routinely needed for specific legal actions and transactions. Draft replies for the signature of the assigned attorneys to inquiries from Congress, financial institutions, other government agencies, and individuals concerning Corporation policies and activities. Assists the attorneys in preparation of exhibits for trial and in the discovery process and in preparation of documents. Assists the attorneys by typing documents as necessary. Accepts legal documents for the attorneys, review for correct form and timeliness, annotating case files and status records to reflect receipt and due date for response or other actions required. Maintain legal information management databases. Perform administrative duties in coordinating typing of documents, printing of briefs and other litigation or transactional documents. Proofread final letters and memoranda. Look up, check, and verify in library, legal and other citations and quotations. Locate cases and photocopy or abstract pertinent paragraphs to assist attorneys in researching briefs and other documents. Qualifications and Evaluations: . Low Risk Position--National Agency Check Investigation (NACI) Required. Under law, FDIC may not employ any person who has: 1) been convicted of any felony; 2) been removed from, or prohibited from participating in the affairs of any insured depository institution pursuant to any final enforcement action by any appropriate Federal banking agency; 3) demonstrated a pattern or practice of defalcation regarding obligations to insured depository institutions; or 4) caused a substantial loss, in an amount in excess of $50,000, to Federal deposit insurance funds. FDIC employees, their spouses, and minor children are also prohibited from acquiring, owning, or controlling, directly or indirectly, a security of an FDIC-insured depository institution, or an affiliate of an FDIC-insured depository institution. Only United States citizens and nationals (residents of American Samoa and Swains Island) are eligible for appointment to competitive service jobs. Candidates who are tentatively identified for appointment must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment prior to appointment. Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 5 level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: preparing exhibits for trial/hearing or discovery responses; searching legal databases, the internet, or other sources, maintaining legal files; proofreading to ensure correct grammar, spelling, & punctuation; using office software, calendars, ticklers; scheduling witnesses, meeting rooms, or hotel accommodations; handling mail; and responding to routine inquiries. Candidates eligible for CTAP or ICTAP will be determined to be well-qualified if they achieve a score of 85 points or higher.
