The physical plant of The New School encompasses approximately 1,300,000 square feet of building floor space within nineteen properties in New York City, mostly around the West Greenwich Village area. The position works within the central administration of the University and reports to the Director of Facilities Management. The Assistant Director for Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for ensuring the universitys compliance with local, state, and federal EH&S regulations and improving the general safety and wellbeing of all students, faculty, and staff on campus. The position works in an exempt status, at will, primarily but not limited to Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The position is part of the Facilities Management administrative team and as such will collaborate with others to provide the best service to the University community. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Developing and implementing a Hazardous Communications Program for all campus facilities, including the following functions: o Tracking chemical inventories in collaboration with staff and faculty; o Managing satellite and central MSDS libraries in collaboration with faculty and staff; o Ensuring institutional compliance with all local, state, and federal HazCom regulations. ? Managing all satellite and central hazardous and universal waste accumulation sites on campus, including the following functions: o Developing and implementing standard operating procedures for hazardous and universal waste accumulation and storage; o Managing hazardous and universal waste disposal and relevant agency filing requirements; o Ensuring institutional compliance with all local, state, and federal hazardous waste management regulations. ? Managing all petroleum bulk storage tanks on campus, including the following functions: o Implementing and regularly updating the university Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plan; o Ensuring university compliance with all local, state, and federal Petroleum Bulk Storage regulations. ? Developing and implementing education and training programs for staff, faculty, and students, including the following functions: o Training staff, faculty, and students in basic lab health and safety protocols; o Developing and communicating Standard Operating Procedures for all activities impacting environmental health and safety ? Monitoring and maintaining logs for all regularly scheduled inspections, regulated waste disposals, and inventory ? Serving as a primary liaison between the university and all relevant local, state, and federal agencies responsible for enforcing EH&S regulations ?
