Operations Supervisor-2nd Shift

This position reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for the overall safety, quality, production and continuous improvement within their area of responsibility. A major area of focus will be the implementation of Lean tools to drive velocity improvements in their cell. Responsibilities include providing leadership, organization, alignment, monitoring and compliance. It is also responsible to insure activities of all assigned personnel result in the safe, successful, timely and cost effective processing of orders to insure customer and stakeholder satisfaction.
Safety Responsibility:
• Insures assigned operations comply with all corporate and applicable local, state and federal safety guidelines.
• Manages Safety processes through personal modeling of appropriate behavior and:
  1. Safety awareness and training;
  2. Injury prevention and management;
  3. Safety policy accountability.

Customer Satisfaction Responsibility:
• Develops and sustains customer relationships through direct interaction, responsiveness and accountability.  Maintains open communication with external and internal customers using appropriate tools as necessary.
• Insures compliance with all corporate and applicable regulatory SOP and industry guidelines.
• Supervises processes to optimize quality performance and ensure an on-time delivery of greater than 95%.
• Analyze and minimize OTD gap between promise and request dates, develop systems to continuously improve delivery.
• Analyze daily production throughput to increase the productivity of the process.   

Operational Excellence Responsibility:
• Drives improvements in Lean flow through the production cell. A key element will be optimization of the production throughput and cycle time reduction due to WIP and space constraints.
• Motivates and fosters involvement by their reports of the implementation and maintenance of “Best Practice” processes, such as Lean Manufacturing, Standard Work, Six Sigma, 5S and similar tools.
• Leads change initiatives, fostering employee involvement, to enhance teamwork, accountability and sense of urgency throughout entire area of responsibility.
• Builds and develops a committed team to deliver key performance metrics as it applies to order fulfillment, including such business processes as order and personnel planning and scheduling, continuous improvement in productivity, quality and business processes and cost control.
• Establishes through visual management and continually enhances self-sustaining processes that drive employee involvement and support decision-making at the lowest possible level while maintaining compliance with all industry requirements and achieving business goals and objectives.
• Analyzes processes and initiates improvement projects using best practice techniques to reduce cycle time, increase throughput and quality and reduce costs.
• Maintains effective communication with other Supervisors and Managers, to insure organizational alignment and optimum utilization of resources.
• Controls the cost in the area of responsibility. 

Leadership Responsibility:
• Identifies and establishes goals and metrics for area of responsibility that drive improvement and reflect and enhance Company initiatives and standards. Holds direct reports accountable for performance vs. metrics.
• Aligns production, quality, mechanical, materials and order fulfillment functions, for unified action and establishment of reliable, self-sustaining processes that improve safety, quality, customer satisfaction and cost performance.
• Builds effective teams through hiring and development of direct reports, using performance management techniques including mentoring, rewards and recognition when appropriate, and discipline when necessary.
• Provides opportunity for success of all personnel by insuring they receive necessary and appropriate training for their job function. Provides opportunities for personal growth and advancement of reports. Help with succession planning in key positions within the cell and communicate gaps in the succession plan.
• Coordinates daily staffing and balances production capability and customer need to effectively insure customer satisfaction and manage costs.


Key Deliverables:
• Zero injuries and incidents.  5S throughout the entire area
• Reduction of customer complaints, deviations and zero reworks
• Conducts investigations, write deviations and effective CAPAs
• OTD 95% each month.
• Reduction in overtime and use of temporary labor.
• Support of OPEX projects for increased productivity and throughput.

Reports to: Production Manager

Supervises: Operators, Mechanics and Packers.

Education or Equivalent:  Bachelor of Science degree in Logistics, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering or related field, and/or 5 years of progressively increasing managerial experience in a production environment.


Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in managing through best practice manufacturing processes, such as Lean Manufacturing, Visual Management, Six Sigma, TQM, etc., as well as demonstrated knowledge and experience in Continuous Improvement theory and practices.
• Demonstrated record of accomplishment in selecting and developing outstanding talent and building a cohesive, highly motivated team.
• Read and comprehend drawings and technical specifications
• Must possess and demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Comfortable at both senior management and shop floor levels.
• Must possess ability to bridge relationships with a variety of individuals and between various departments and levels of the organization.
• Must possess and demonstrate knowledge and experience for industry regulations and relevant safety and OSHA regulations.
• Must possess computer skills with past experience using MS Office, spreadsheets and ERP systems.
