Will perform all scheduled and unscheduled repairs to all equipment assigned to the New York Sunnyside Maintenance Facility in accordance with Amtrak Maintenance Requirements. Will be required to perform various assignments at Station, Yard, PM Line, Bad Order Repair Lines, and Service and Inspection Lines. Will adhere to all Amtrak, FRA and EPA requirements. Must be able to perform electrician on turbine powered locomotives, diesel electrical locomotives, head end power, and passenger coaches in accordance with FRA rules and Amtrak maintenance standards. Must be able to read and interpret electrical schematic diagrams and wiring blueprints. Must have a thorough knowledge of electrical systems on turbine powered locomotives, diesel electric locomotives and passenger coaches. Must be able to troubleshoot electrical problems and make necessary repairs. Must have the knowledge and ability to perform load testing of locomotives. Must have the basic knowledge of motors, generators, contractors, cab signal, head end power, and electrical control equipment. Must have a working knowledge of HVAC systems. Perform all other duties assigned under contractual agreement. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Prefer Technical school or college graduate. WORK EXPERIENCE: Ability to read electrical schematics and logics, experience in printed circuits. Qualified in air conditioning and refrigeration. Prefer experience in Freon handling and HVAC repair. Prior satisfactory job performance is required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 70 lbs. on a single lift to a four-foot height and repeatedly on an average of 20 times per day. Repetitive pushing more than 30 lbs. for 15 minutes per day. Repetitive pulling more than 30 lbs. for 15 minutes per day. Required to asymmetrically lift 30 lbs. for 5 minuets per day. Required to bend back frequently for 30 minutes per day or bend knees for 30 minutes per day. Must be able to reach 18 inches above head to perform work unassisted. Manual hand dexterity is required. Must work with various chemicals. Required to operate a motor vehicle. Required to climb stairs and ladders to a height of 20 feet. Ability to move over rough surfaces (i.e. ballast). Ability to maneuver through small spaces. Must be capable of hearing without the assistance of another individual. Must be able to speak clearly to be comprehended by others. Requires visual depth perception. Requires optimal night vision for safe operation of equipment and/or vehicle. 20/20 vision (correctable) required. Requires understanding of printed or written information. Must be able to perform mathematical computations. Must be capable of identifying safety signals in red/green/yellow frequencies without the assistance of another individual. Requires an understanding of visual displays (i.e. gauges, dials, meters, etc.) Must be capable of coping with work pressures such as last minute decisions. Must be able to work unassisted or unsupervised. COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
