Description of Duties Closing Posting Date: 11/05/2009

* Responsible for rate renewal development, new business rate quotations, Prospective Plan Summaries and Statements of Experiences. Provide aberrant analytical observations and recommendations to the Underwriting Manager.

* Manages a portfolio of mid-size accounts

* Moderates rate approval authority, as defined in the Underwriting Approval Guidelines

* Analyzes enrollment, premium and high claim reports on existing business cases. Observes irregularities in the data and initiate an investigation.

* Reviews group characteristics to ensure compliance with corporate underwriting guidelines

* Responsible for the preparation of periodic analyses and forecast of underwriting results on a group specific basis for review by Underwriting Manager

* Reviews and evaluates preliminary Instruction Sheets for accuracy and compliance with Underwriting regulations

* Prepares incurred claim reports and benefit modifications in response to requests from groups, brokers, or, consultants (via Sales or Underwriting Management)

* Maintains production standards to support Departmental goals and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley initiatives

* Performs related group underwriting duties as assigned by the Manager

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* Solid working knowledge of underwriting principles and techniques

* Ability to work independently and in a deadline oriented environment

* Ability to take initiative in developing and completing projects

* Good communication skills, analytical abilities, and negotiation, and problem-solving skills Ability to interact, especially as these skills and abilities relate to working with sales and marketing reps, brokers, consultants, and customers

* Competent understanding of typical competitor product offerings and knowledge of general industry developments and trends

Requirements * Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or related field is preferred * Four or more years health underwriting or related experience * Demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
