HR Generalist

Title: HR Generalist Location: NJ, Clifton Req Number: itti-00016196 Position Description: General Summary and Basic Function: This job functions as generalist and administrative support to the Human Resources Manager. This position provides HR support in programs and initiatives in employment, terminations, employee relations, investigations, performance counseling, compensation, benefits, HRIS input and transactions, training and development, financial budgets, special events, incentive programs, EEO and Affirmative Action. Scope and Principle Duties: The HR Generalist assists the Human Resources Manager as the first line of contact for the department for Human Resources related issues and customer service. This position analyzes information, approves requests and advises clients in areas involving employee relations and HR policies. Other critical areas supported by this position are: customer service, benefits support, data transactions, compensation, training and development, financial budgets, and lead project tasks and duties as related to ITT SSDs HR Function. The work involves a high level of contact and collaboration with employees and management at all levels within the Value Center, the processing of information to a high level of detail, the ability to work independently, the ability to manage basic HR programs and initiatives, utilize strong problem solving skills to reach value added resolutions, and to exercise frequent independent discretion and judgment.

Job Specifications and Work Performed:

Manage HR programs and initiatives: Responsible for controlling and administering low level programs and initiatives. Has authority to take independent action but is expected to inform the Manager Human Resources of non-routine situations.  HR Policies and Standard Practices: Must have a broad understanding of HR policies and standard practices. Responsible for interpretation and recommendations when collaborating with clients. Utilizes communication skills to disseminate policy interpretation and recommendations to employees and managers.  Employee Relations/Customer Service: Functions as the first line of contact for employee and management inquiries to include face to face meetings, telephone, and email communications with employees and management. Exercises a high level of professionalism in contact with employees and management regarding Human Resources related issues, policies, procedures, employee relations, and wage, salary and benefit inquiries. Uses discretion and judgment in determining those issue that need to be elevated to the Manager, Human Resources. May serve as the primary HR liaison for a small business/functional group.  Assists Human Resources Manager with the implementation of organizational development strategies and programs to obtain the effective utilization of the organizations human capital.  Conducts employee relations investigations using proper investigation tools to address complaints and labor relations issues presented to Human Resources.  Collaborates with the Human Resources Managers regarding the course of action related to employee investigations and employee counseling.  Conducts employee counseling sessions to include disciplinary actions and directs and advises supervisors on their roles and responsibilities related to employee relations and employment counseling.  The job will require counseling to employees, when appropriate, on basic and routine human resources issues to include basic benefits and compensation questions.  Will assist in special events, incentive programs, performance appraisals, EEO, and Affirmative Action.  HRIS/Infinium System: Requires significant skills in performing Infinium inquires of a unique nature. Responsible for routine Infinium reports and inquiries and provides data inputs and data changes in the HRIS for employee transactions such as for new hires, transfers, terminations, promotions, wage, salary, and benefits administration as required by the HRIS policy and procedures.  The job requires a strong attention to detail, keyboarding accuracy and the use of standard business math calculations.  The position will assist with annual benefits open enrollment projects and the benefit confirmation reports to include enrollment data entry and benefits verifications.  Management Reports and Communications: Builds and prepares documents, presentation slides, e-mails, mail-merge documents, and spreadsheets for HR Management communications and presentations as directed. Will routinely assist in the writing and editing of correspondence and documents.  Implements and maintains transaction processes according to policies and procedures for Human Resources and government compliance. This includes, but is not limited, to the processing of required benefit forms, documents, compensation records and reports, wage verification forms and reports, and government wage and salary survey forms.  Transactions will also involve various processing of data for government audits, for internal business transactions and inquiries, and government compliance reporting and records retention requirements.  Provide administrative support to the HR Manager (maintain calendar, travel, etc.) Experience Requirements: Education and Experience: BA/BS degree preferred in Business Administration or Human Resources.  Position requires 6 - 8 years work experience in general Human Resources administration to include compensation, employee relations, or benefits. 3 - 5 years demonstrated client support experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience with HRIS is preferred. Working Condition: General office environment, with sitting, some lifting of files, paper and supplies. Security Clearance: The individual holding this position must be a U. S. Citizen. The individual must be able to pass both a background investigation and polygraph to achieve a variety of compartmented national security clearances if required.
