ROLE: Provide strategic and day to day direction for department activities to include Dry Manufacturing, Wet Processing, Labelling, and Product transfer to achieve plant production goals. You will prepare, implement and monitor operational and financial plans to meet company productivity and cost objectives. Activities involve planning, developing and implementing procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department. Provide leadership on human resource issues including hiring, performance management, training, and coaching employees. Supervise staff in accordance with company policies and procedures. Report information to various levels of management on key performance indicators as related to product quality, service levels, and employee productivity or job efficiency. Performs specialized and technical studies and makes recommendations regarding modifications, process improvements, cost reduction opportunities in Manufacturing and / or related departments. Participate in special projects as deemed necessary by management. Essential Requirements * Manage the operational and fiscal activities of the department to include: staffing levels, budgets and financial goals. * Analyze and document business processes and problems. Develop solutions to enhance efficiencies. * Coordinate and implement solutions from process analysis and general department projects. * Develops manpower requirements and sets priorities for production schedules based on new product introduction, equipment efficiency and materials supply. * Develops proposals for capital expenditures and makes budget recommendations for manufacturing operations. * Direct staff in the development, analysis and preparation of reports. * Supervise staff in accordance with company policies and procedures. * Conduct interviews, hire new staff and provide employee orientation. * Coach and provide career development advice to staff. * Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews. * Develop staffing requirements for production schedules based on new product introduction, equipment efficiency and materials supply. * Responsible for staff scheduling to include work assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, back up for absent employee and shift rotations. * Conduct departmental and employee meetings to ensure effective employee communication. * Assures departmental adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures and Regulatory requirements. * Plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department. * Establish and direct plant policies and procedures. * Hires, discharges, evaluate, and disciplines employees in accordance with current company policies. Also involved in the employee development plans that help employees to reach their career objectives and / or improve their job knowledge. * Assist staff to resolve complex or out of policy operation problems. * Coordinate with Human Resources for appropriate staffing levels. * Schedule and conduct department meetings. * Responsible to meet department productivity and quality goals. * Communicate on various organizational levels on department operations. * Maintain a clean and safe facility. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education: A minimum post high school education of an Associates degree (2 years) is required with course concentrations in manufacturing, engineering, sciences, or business management preferred. Bachelor degree (4 years) preferred. Minimum Experience: At least five (5) years progressively responsible experience in supervisory or management capacity required, manufacturing process experience in a made to order precision manufacturing environment preferred. Experience in lean manufacturing principles; 5S, Kanban, Just-in-Time (JIT), SMED (Quick Set-Ups), Zero Quality Defects (ZQC), Six Sigma is preferable but not an absolute requirement.
