Overview: This position resides at the eV facility in Saxonburg, PA. Responsible for the volume production of high-quality CdZnTe crystals for the manufacture of x-ray and gamma ray detectors and detector arrays. Responsibilities include maintaining steady high-yield crystal growth processes, ensuring the volume production of high-quality crystals, continuously improving the efficiency of crystal growth operations, and maintaining production capacity at optimum level at all times. Responsible for planning, scheduling, material and supply chain management of crystal growth operations. Use state of the art SPC techniques and metrics to monitor, track and analyze material quality, yield and growth system performance. Responsible for the Quality Management System of the crystal growth operations. Works closely with the eV process development team to develop new advanced crystal growth processes and techniques, and to design and install new or upgraded crystal growth systems. Leads the transfer and implementation of new crystal growth and processing technology from R&D to production. Leads crystal growth capacity expansion and crystal growth system upgrade projects. Responsibilities: Material Production * Responsible for the volume production of high-quality CdZnTe crystals for the manufacture of x-ray and gamma ray detectors and detector arrays. Maintains steady high-yield crystal growth processes, ensuring the volume production of high-quality crystals, continuously improving the efficiency of crystal growth operations, and maintaining production capacity at optimum level at all times. * Responsible for planning, scheduling, material and supply chain management of crystal growth operations. Works with manufacturing management and production planning personnel to develop optimum yearly and monthly material production plans, budgets and schedules. Manages material, supplies and spare part inventories at optimum level at all times to ensure uninterrupted material production. * Use state of the art SPC techniques and metrics to monitor, track and analyze material quality, yield and growth system performance. Ensures that all the necessary material quality and yield measurements are performed accurately and timely and the data are entered accurately to a tracking database. Performs a statistical analysis of material quality and yield data, extracts tends and correlations, and prepares the necessary reports and recommendations. Prepares monthly QA and production reports. * Responsible for the Quality Management System of the crystal growth operations. Develop standard process procedures and other QA documentation that assist in producing quality materials that meet eV Manufacturing and customers expectations. Process documentation is periodically audited and modifications completed according to eV QA manual. Controlled copies of the standard process procedures are updated and produced for the crystal growth personnel. * Responsible for the development and execution of preventive maintenance plans for crystal growth and processing equipment. Assist in the training of crystal growth personnel and execution of preventive maintenance tasks. * Performs failure analysis of crystal growth and processing processes and equipment. Develops and executes failure elimination and correction plans. * Responsible for the recovery from production interruptions due to power, supply and equipment failures. Leads the efforts for the resolution of equipment breakdowns to insure impact to productivity and quality are minimized, as well as efforts to improve designs to increase reliability and process uptime. * Leads the transfer and implementation of new advanced crystal growth processes from the R&D and Technology Development Teams to crystal growth production. * Leads crystal growth capacity expansion and growth system upgrade projects. Participates in the design and manages facility expansion required by the implementation of new crystal growth and processing equipment. Prepare appropriations requests and the supporting data to insure that required equipment purchases are completed in a timely manner. Prepares and executes equipment fabrication, building and installation project plans and schedules. * Provide guidance and assistance for crystal growth team in training new personnel to achieve accurate error-free material processing and detector fabrication operation. Process Development * Continuously look for crystal growth process improvement potentials. Question established technologies and practices to reveal improvement opportunities. Draw attention of the material and process development team to process deficiencies and initiates improvement projects. * Works closely with the eV process development and process automation teams to develop new advanced crystal growth techniques and systems. Participates in the mechanical and control system design of new crystal growth systems. * Supports internal R&D projects and experiments to improve the existing and develop new crystal growth technology. Work closely with the members of the process development team and assist in the design, monitoring, and documentation of experiments for improving the crystal growth process. Ensures that materials, supplies, equipment and crystal growth personnel are available for crystal growth and processing experiments in a timely fashion. Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience in bulk semiconductor crystal growth, processing, and characterization. Demonstrated track record as a manufacturing or process engineer in the semiconductor or optoelectronics industry. Hands on experience with the design and operation of crystal growth, film deposition, annealing and vacuum equipment. Knowledge of semiconductor material physics, chemistry and crystallization phenomena. Strong demonstrated practical experience with manufacturing techniques and methods such as: SPC, QMS, Six Sigma, DOE. Strong demonstrated skills with data collection, database, scheduling and project planning and tracking software tools. Educational Requirements: Minimum BS/BE in materials science, chemical engineering or in alternative engineering or scientific discipline. Desired Experience: Experience in the growth and processing of compound semiconductor materials. Practical knowledge and experience with physical, optical, and electrical characterization techniques of semiconductor materials. Practical experience and demonstrated skills to perform failure mode analysis and develop plan of actions to solve the problems. Ability to innovate and introduce new technologies in condensed time frames. Ability to conceive, design, and operate new equipment. Proficiency with computer based CAD, equipment control software and programming, data collection, and analysis tools. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and project management skills.
