Duties : This position is located in the 121 Air Carrier Operations Branch (AFS-220), Air Transportation Division (AFS-200), Flight Standards Service. The incumbent serves as an air transportation system specialist in the 121 Air Carrier Operations Branch and is responsible for directing, planning, organizing, coordinating, developing, evaluating, and implementing regulations, standards, policies, and procedures relating to the certification, operations, inspection, and surveillance of air carriers operating in accordance with Part 121 of the regulations. The incumbent is responsible for the resolution of highly technical and complex issues affecting national and international operational policies and procedures. The incumbent will support the implementation of NextGen Technologies, including Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B), Performance Based Navigation (PBN), and Safety Management Systems (SMS) in Part 121 Operations. The incumbent may be required to participate in the headquarters Flight Program or rental program to maintain the most current knowledge and actual experience about the latest National Airspace procedures, flight operations, aircraft instrumentation and displays, and operating conditions in the National Airspace system. The incumbent is held accountable for the technical accuracy, proper coordination, and timeliness of completed staff work. Performs other duties as required.Minimum Qualifications : Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the last 5 years; Valid State drivers license; Fluency in the English language; No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and High school diploma or equivalent. MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, and must meet all of the following requirements: A. Have a good distant vision in each eye and be able to read (glasses and contact lenses permitted) printed materials the size of typewritten characters without strain; B. Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); C. Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others or that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft. In addition, applicants for positions that require participation in the operation of aircraft must: Possess a valid second-class medical certificate in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations; and Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: *** RECENCY OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IS WAIVED FOR CURRENT AND FORMER FAA EMPLOYEES IN THE 1825 SERIES*** To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FG-13 or FV-I in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. This experience would include: At least 1 year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight; Not more than 2 flying accidents during the last 5 years in which the applicants pilot error was involved; Professional flying skill as demonstrated in a simulator check to Airline Transport Pilot Standard; Minimum 100 flight hours during the last 3 years; Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating; Possession of a valid second-class FAA medical certificate; and Minimum 1,500 total flight hours. Salary including 23.10% locality pay for the Wash, DC metro area is $88,017-$136,395. Salary including 18.55% locality pay for the Atlanta, GA area is $84,763-$131,353. 2. Permanent Change of Station expenses will be paid as a fixed rate of $27,000. 3. This is a core compensation position. This is a bargaining unit position. 4.
